It didn't take me long to get ready. My hair still looked fine from that day and I just added a little extra makeup and changed my top. I decided to wait outside on the porch; I wasn't expecting Reece to arrive for another 15 minutes but I felt like getting some fresh air.
I sat on our porch swing and closed my eyes, enjoying the slight breeze in the air for a few minutes.
"SPIDER!" someone screamed and I felt something land on me
You know that thing where you have a bug on you and you try and get it off and you do the crazy ass tap dancing while waving your arms in the air? Well I did that just then, I tap danced around my porch like a crazy woman.
"OH.... MY..... GOD" I heard someone laughing
I stopped still and saw Ricky, Dan and Justin rolling around in hysterics. I also saw several leaves on my porch which hadn't been there before. I guess the "spider" was really a leaf that they'd thrown on me.
"You jerks!" I shouted, half angry and half laughing myself now. This wasn't the first time I'd fallen for this particular trick.
Damn, I'd nearly had a heart attack!
"Oh my god.... Emily... you should of.... seen... your.... face" Justin gasped, taking breaths every time he laughed
"You'll have to teach us those new dance moves" teased Dan
This caused the other 2 to burst into fresh fits of laughter
"Well you've had your fun, now what do you want?" I asked fake scowling as I sat back down on the porch swing
Ricky came and sat down next to me and put his arm round me, pulling me close to him.
"Cheer up Emz, we've come to offer you the exciting prospect of our company for the evening"
Hmmm they had a funny way of making hanging out with them seem appealing. Terrify a girl and then ask her if she wants to hang out.
"As fantastical as that sounds I'm busy tonight" I replied.
Ha, thats what you get when you pick on Emily, you have to spend a boring evening without her company.
"Doing what?" queried Justin as he picked at the paint on the porch rail. My mum freaks out about that but he's done it for years and never stops no matter how much my mum moans at him (and me for not stopping him) about it.
"I have a date with Reece Timbers" I said slowly, observing their faces
"Why has Reece Timbers asked you out? Ricky asked in a suspicious tone, taking his arm from around me and turning to look at me
Wow, harsh.
"I'm sorry if you're as surprised as me that Reece Timbers asked me on a date, I know it's shocking" I responded, glaring at Ricky, "I have no idea why he has but shock horror he has and we are going to the cinema"
Rickys face softened and he put his arm back around me. I made a pathetic attempt to wriggle away but he didn't let me
"You know I didn't mean it like that Emz", he said gently, pulling me even closer so I was snuggled into his chest causing all my feelings of annoyance to vanish. Ricky hugs are the best, seriously.
The sound of a car engine filled the street and a blue car (thats as descriptive as I get with cars - sorry!) pulled up in front of my house. I could see from the porch that it was Reece. He didn't get out the car but instead beeped the horn. He clearly thought the 4 of us were blind.
"Well losers I'm gonna have to love you and leave you" I sighed detaching myself from Ricky and standing up. As I walked towards the car Justin shouted that if Reece tried anything dodgy to ring them and they'd come and kick his ass. Yeah, my mum makes me carry pepper spray in my bag for situations like that.

I felt a bit awkward when I first got in Reeces car. He'd heard what Justin had shouted and seemed a bit put off by it
"Do you always just hang out with dudes?" he asked as we drove along
"No I hang out with Faye as well" I replied defensively, wondering what he was trying to say
"I didn't mean it in a bad way" he said seeing my face, "It's just a bit daunting picking up a girl when shes sat with 3 guys"
We sat in silence as I tried to think of a conversation starter. Reece soon solved that problem when he put The Heavies latest album on.
"How good was the concert?" I gushed forgetting that a second ago we'd been sat in silence
Reece agreed with me about how amazing the concert had been
"To be honest I was a little shocked to see you, Luke and Kayden there" I admitted, "I didn't really think it would be your scene"
"What jocks can't like rock music?" he asked, raising an eyebrow
I realised my comment was highly sterotyping him but it was the truth, I had genuinely been surprised to see them there
"Well yeah but you know" I smiled, not really making myself clear
"Well it's me who's the fan" Reece explained, "But Kayden thinks they're ok and Luke tagged along because he managed to bag a ticket at the last minute. They're not really his thing. Anyway if jocks can't like that kind of music why was Ricky there?"
"Ricky thinks they are crap, he took me as a huge favour" I laughed, "And I'm sorry I won't stereotype you like that again, promise"
We talked nonstop the rest of the drive to the cinema, mostly about our favourite bands - it seemed we had a very similar taste in music
"Emily you're actually much cooler than I thought" Reece said looking conflicted as we pulled into the parking lot
"Erm thanks... I think?" I replied, slightly confused.
So prior to tonight he'd thought I was much less cool but had still asked me on a date? Weird.
I forgot what he'd said as we entered the cinema lobby. Mmmm popcorn here I come!
Reece bought our movie tickets and I paid for a large popcorn for us to share. Reece pulled a face when I ordered a mixture of sweet and salted but oh well he'd have to suck it up or go without. I bet once he tasted it he'd realise what a genius I was for mixing the two.
We headed to the screen room for our film and sat down to watch the trailers. I managed to restrain the inner geek in me when the trailer for the new Harry Potter movie came on. Just as the title for The Hangover 2 came up Reece whispered that he was going to the bathroom. I nodded without looking at him, once a movie starts I get into the zone.
He must of been gone at least 5 minutes before he came back and sat down beside me. I still didn't bother to look at him, I was too busy stuffing my face with popcorn and laughing at the film. It was only when he put his arm round me I was distracted from the film; I'd expected him to wait a bit longer before doing something like that - not that I minded, it was only an arm.
I sneaked a peek at Reece and my jaw dropped as I realised that Reece wasn't sat next to me.
Luke was....
