                       7th Year Part 8

                        Lena P.O.V

I was back at Hogwarts, it was April, all of us could feel the tension in the air, hear the whispers of the death eaters “The Dark Lord will be here soon” I heard them all say. The battle was soon to come, so everyday after class The Army of Hogwarts practiced, and by the time that may had come we were good enough to deflect and counter just about any spell.

Our number one worry though, was the one curse none of us had blocked, the Killing Curse, we knew that was the Death Eaters’ number one weapon. “Okay, does anyone have any ideas about how to block or deflect a killing curse?” Neville asked, there were some whispers then one girl piped up “Maybe if we got into groups of two to fight them, maybe the curse wouldn’t go through two shields”

Neville nodded “Let’s try that, everyone back up” we had a dummy that shot curses at us, if they got through our shields or if we didn’t deflect them they still wouldn’t touch us, so we knew this would be a safe test. Neville and Lynx stood next to each other and held their wands at ready. The spell shot out and they both cast a shield, it was bigger and thicker than normal, the curse went halfway through then stopped.

“Success” Neville said and everyone cheered. “Ok, now we have one more issue address” Neville said lowering his shield. Everyone turned their attention to him.

“We know that people are going to die during the battle, I know most of you are probably scared, and I don’t blame you, so now is the time to back out, this is your last chance, if you want to leave just get up and walk out of that door” a couple of kids got up and walked out of the door, the rest of them stayed.

“Well I’m happy the rest of you want to stay, now let’s get back to training, pick a partner and duel” everyone nodded and paired up with someone I got together with Heidi.

She cast stupefy and I blocked it then casted Expelliarmus, she deflected it back at me and I dodged it. I cast Petrefus Totalus and she blocked it, the spell went haywire and hit another kid who then got hit by stupefy. I guess this is what the battle is going to be like, spells going everywhere, no way to tell where they’re going or if a haywire one is going to hit you, it’s a risk all of us are going to have to take.

Heidi cast a couple of spells that I blocked then I sent one back at her, it hit her and she flew back to the ground. “Good job Lena” she said as she got up slowly.

I smiled “Thanks, you ok?” she nodded. “A bruise at the worse, I’m fine” I nodded and a spell zoomed in between Heidi and me.  It       hit Lynx and she hit the floor. “Ow” she said and got up slowly. Heidi and I went over to her “You okay?” we asked and she nodded then got up “I think so, just hit my head, we need to stop the training”

We nodded and shot our Patronus’ in the air and flew them around and in between people to signal them to stop. They put their wands away and faced us, Neville came up to join us and turned to face the people “Good job, I think that’s enough practice for today, go rest, and if anything happens we’ll round you up and bring you in here, if we can’t find you listen to the signal “Lightning has stuck” that means Harry is here, and the battle is about to start ok?” Everyone nodded.

I went up into the common room and grabbed my broom from my room, I figured I might need to use it during the battle, so I should refresh my flying skills. I went down to the quidditch pitch and mounted the broom and kicked off. I flew around the pitch a couple times and rolled and swerved through the quidditch goal hoops.

I felt like I was doing great. I set down awhile later and dismounted. I knew that I could use my broom during the battle, but I would probably get killed, but if I did use it I could also provide better air attacks. I sighed and put my broom in the locker room, I would keep it down here until the battle, so if we had to leave the common room I wouldn’t take up more space than I needed too.

I sat down on the bench and thought of last year, when I would be in this room getting ready to play quidditch, not storing things I would be using in a battle that could kill me.

I sighed and put my head into my hands “I wish that this wasn’t going to happen” I said to no one in particular, but then I heard the lockers creak and I looked behind me.

Blaise was leaning against the locker “You can’t change what’s going to happen Lena, I wish I could too, but I can’t, and I can’t stop you from fighting either apparently” I got up and drew my wand “Quit following me Blaise, and quit trying to convince me not to fight, I have too, I’m going to defend Hogwarts for future generations, my children, Blaise, do you want your kids to not be able to go to Hogwarts if they’re not slytherins? If they’re not evil?” I took a step toward him and put a hand on his chest and looked into his eyes “Blaise, you’re not evil, please, help us, don’t fight for him”

Blaise frowned “I have to, I have to Lena I’m sorry” he raised his sleeve to show the dark mark “I’ve already pledged myself to him, I have to fight for him, if I betray him he’ll kill me” I frowned “Blaise, he’ll kill everyone, no matter what they do, please” Blaise pushed my hand off of his chest gently.

“I’m not going to stop you Lena, but if it comes to it I will fight you” I saw a tear escape his eye. “I’m sorry” he said and then turned and walked away.
