"Are you serious? I don't believe that." Riley says and I nod my head.
"I swear, it's true! I mean, do you really think-" I get cut off by Kelsey.
"Hey Michelle! Who's your friend?" She asks, turning to Riley.
"Oh, I'm Riley. And you are...?" She asks and Kelsey smiles.
"I'm Kelsey. Michelle didn't say that she was dating someone new! You would think your sister would say something like that to you," Kelsey says and I shoot her the death glare. "But even so, it's hard to keep up with her. Someone new every week."
"Shut up Kelsey." I grumble and Riley laughs.
"Don't worry, I'm not dating your sister. We're just roommates," Riley explains and Kelsey winks. "Not like that. Friends. Nothing more. Right Michelle?" Riley turns to me.
"Yeah. Just friends, that's all." I mutter, using ever bit of strength I have to say five words. Kelsey smiles and nods her head.
"I see. Well, if that's the case, then would you consider going out with me?" Kelsey asks Riley and her eyes widen.
"What? I just met you, and I don't know you at all." Riley stutters, her words linked together making it hard to understand. I glare at Kelsey and shake my head, and we hold eye contact. She pulls out her phone and types something in before putting it back in her pocket.
"Well, then why don't we just get coffee, as two people who are getting to know each other? Not a date." Kelsey offers, and Riley turns to me.
"What should I do?" She whispers quietly and I shake my head.
"Whatever you want. I don't care." I lie and Riley nods her head.
"Since it's not a date, then it doesn't matter where we get to know each other. For example, the dorm room, just me, you and Michelle," Riley suggests, and a feeling of relief washes over me. "Would tonight work for you?"
"Tonight would work great! I'll be there about seven. See you guys later!" Kelsey gives me a kiss on the cheek and walks away, leaving Riley and I on our own again.
"She seems like a nice girl," Riley says and I shrug. "But you guys don't really look alike."
"We get that a lot," We did. Even though there was less than two years between us, Kelsey and I looked completely different, although mainly by choice. Kelsey kept her hair long, while I kept mine short, and I wore no makeup, but she piled it on. "But none the less, she's my sister." I told her as we walked back to the dorm.
"Haha! I guess. I never had any siblings. It was always just me, and it still is." Riley says dejectedly and I smile.
"That's not true. I'm here, Riley." I tell her and she smiles at me.
"Thanks Michelle. You're a good friend." She says, and I feel like I'm being stabbed in the heart. Friend. That's all I am to her.
