FAQ's And An Explanation of SOTC's

Hello, I hope you like the story so far. This is not a continuation to the story. Here are a few things I'd like to explain about Escaping Lights.

1. How did you come up with the name Phoebe Howell?

Actually, the name Phoebe Howell is not new to me. I have this story entitled In the Eyes of Phoebe Howell that I wrote when I was 12. It's about a girl who could see things that were out of the ordinary. You know, like faeries, ghosts, magical creatures and such. But unfortunately, I never had the chance to finish it because I think it's not good enough. As a little kid, I was quite ambitious and I wanted to do a lot of things at once. So the character I created some time ago makes a comeback in Escaping Lights instead. 

2. Can you describe Phoebe's personality? 

Okay, so sometimes, Phoebe can be so stubborn. She actually has a unique personality. Her mood changes a lot. I wouldn't say she's extremely pleasant, but she has her ways. She can be rude. She often cannot understand herself. But she's really nice when you're nice to her as well. She always minds her manners because of her grandmother. She's always curious, but most of all, she wants things to go her way all the time. 

3. Enlighten me about Phoebe's parents? Do they really care about their children?

They're good parents, to be honest. But they're always away, which made Phoebe long for them so much. Of course they do care about their children's welfare. But they're also so passionate about their careers that they tend to get misleaden or carried away. At times, they can be insensitive to Phoebe's feelings. But they brought their kids up with a lot of love. They think that now their children are older, they can handle themselves pretty well. Also, the issue about Phoebe running away affected them so much. Normally, they would make a big fuss when something like this happens but they got tons of important matters going on in their lives that they let her do what she wanted. 

Here's a fun fact: Phoebe's adoptive dad's name is Christopher Howell. St. Christopher is the patron saint of travelers, which made a huge coincidence because in the story, Phoebe's dad traveled a lot.

4. The mysterious Seth? 

Seth is really interesting. With stunning good looks, he can capture anyone's heart, but he only ever liked Phoebe. When she ran away, he couldn't sleep for many nights because of course, she's still his sister and he cared a lot about her. But eventually, he realizes that it's wrong to think about her in a romantic way and he forces his feelings to fade away. He figured that maybe letting Phoebe go away for a while may help him push aside what he felt about her. 

5. Does Greyson even feel something for Phoebe!?

Yes, he does. Don't you see it? He's trying to act neutral about this whole Jared-likes-Phoebe thing. That's his way of showing that he's---Okay, if I don't stop now, I'm going to spoil everything. I have to end  here about Greyson. 

6. And Maddie? Was she hurt when Jared told her she liked Phoebe?

Maddie was in no way expecting that. She was pretty hurt, I guess, because who wouldn't get hurt when your crush actually likes your friend? But Maddie's a very sensible person. I'd say she's smart and takes things in an analytical way. 

And did you know that Greyson actually has a cousin named Madeline in real life? He tweeted about her in 2010 saying that he loved watching her recital. I'm just not sure if they also call her Maddie.

7. Why did you choose New York?

Sunshine and city lights will guide you home. Yeah, you gotta know that I'll never let you go. 

8. Phoebe and Seth are in Purple Sky?!?!?

Yes, yes, their names are in the song! When I started writing the story, I hadn't listened to that for daysand the fact that Greyson sang some names in there went off my mind completely. The realization came to me weeks later. Meredith's and Jared's names are in there as well. 

9. What happens to Nana?

Nana was so miserable when her granddaughter ran away. She cried a lot of times and she often prayed. But she hasn't spoken to Phoebe through the phone and sometimes she can't help but feel that she's the reason why Phoebe fled.

10. What about Erin's character?

Erin, yeah well she's somewhat interesting and intruiging.  I have no idea if she'll ever make a crucial breakthrough in this story. More things will be unravelled about her in the next chapters. 

11. How did Erin end up being on a wheelchair?

Erin has a story, a tragic one. And I'm going to tell you more about her in the next parts of the story.

12. Is Jemma Phoebe's real mother?

Hmmmmm, my lips are sealed, but I don't think so.

13. What is the significance of SOTC's? 

Sometimes, SOTC's don't really relate much to the chapter. But I would make them the SOTC because that certain song would be the most striking song for me when I would write the chapter. Whenever I get blank ideas, I listen to music for some inpsiration. So SOTC's don't necessarily have to be what the whole chapter is about.
