It had been almost a week since Demi was admitted to the hospital and shes not getting better. This is the longest she's ever been sick. This has caused me to be real off my game. I haven't been focused at all. But I try to do my best to keep it together during practices but all I can really think about is Demi. I go visit her on my lunch breaks to make sure she's good and I'll swing by the hospital before going home or to Lori's. The kids will come back with me or they'll stay at the hospital.
Cali went home with one of her teammates, and so did CJ. So it's just me and Dylan tonight. I went and got her from school before practice today. We stay after practice so that I can get some work done.
"What do you wanna eat for dinner dyl."
"I don't know daddy. Whatever you wanna eat. Is Ms. Lori making dinner."
"I don't know. I haven't talked to Ms. Lori all day. I'm gonna call her." I call with my office phone.
"Hello."she says.
"Hey baby...what are you doing?"
"At the grocery store getting stuff for dinner. Will I be having dinner guest tonight?"
"A couple...what's on the menu?"
"I have no idea..."
"Hold on...Dylan, what would you like for Ms. Lori to make?"
"Mmm...spaghetti."
"How does spaghetti sound?" I ask.
"it sounds good actually..."
"Good, well spaghetti it is. We'll see you soon."
"Can't wait." We hang up and I get back to work.
"We're going to see mommy, right?"
"Of course we are. Maybe we can stop by the store to get her more flowers. When I talked to her earlier, she said she wasn't feeling good."
"Okay." I get everything done that I needed to and we leave. We swing by the store for flowers then head to the hospital. We get to the hospital, park and go inside. Walking up to the door, I knock before we enter. When we do, we walk into an empty room.
"Demi..." I check in the bathroom, and she's not there.
"Where is she?" Dylan asks.
"I don't know...but stay here, I'm gonna find out."
"I wanna come too dad."
"Dylan. Stay here. Leave this room and you're grounded. Understand?"
"Yes sir." I walk down the hall and turn the corner and come upon one of the help desk.
"Hey Mr. Kaepernick." One of them says.
"Hey..did Demi get taken somewhere?" I ask with confusion."
"Umm..no. Not that I know of. Is she not in her room."
"I wouldn't have asked if she was in there." I say before walking away. I plan to cover every inch of this hospital. Well, as much as I can. Nothing. Where the hell could she be.
{Demi's POV}
Today was the worse I've felt. I felt like I was gonna die several times. That's how bad it was. This whole week has been shit, with no signs of getting better, and I'm just fed up. I'd rather not be here on this earth than suffer this. After crying for what seems like hours after accepting the fact that this is what my life is, and it won't get better, I unhook myself from the machines and take the needle out of my hand that's pumps the fluids into my body, and slip away from my room and use the stairs that go to the roof.
Slowly walking to the edge, there's a breeze that blows over me. I breakdown one last time and just think, this is it.
"Demi." I look back and Colin's standing behind me.
"Colin, go away."
"I'm not going anywhere. Demi...don't you dare."
"You don't understand the pain I've been going through. I can't do this anymore."
"Yes you can. Baby, please." He's in tears at this point.
"I can't Colin. I just can't."
"Yes you can. Please. I'm begging you. Just..don't jump. I need you...more than ever before."
"You have Lori."
"She's not good enough. She's nowhere near good enough." I look back and he's getting closer and closer.
"Colin, I swear, if you come any closer, I'll jump."
"Remember that time, in the studio, when you were so close to jumping off that ledge?"
As I think back to that time, I can remember it very vividly. The way I felt then, is the way I feel now.
"I told you not to jump because it's not worth it...and it's still not worth it."
"What do I have to live for? Huh. I'm stuck with a disease that seems to be killing me anyway...so why not make it quick and less painful."
"Demi, we have 5 children. Think about how they'd feel if they woke up tomorrow to hear they're mother died, and they didn't even get to say goodbye. Dylan's downstairs right now, hoping and praying that I find you. Please?" I look back and he's holding out his hand. I reach to grab it and end up losing my balance.
"DEMI!" He hurry up and grabs a hold of my and I'm hanging off the building by his hand.
"Colin, just let me go."
"ARE YOU CRAZY?" His veins popping out as he holds on to me. "I'm not letting you go! Help me pull you up."
"No...let me go."
"I'm not letting you go damnit." I start trying to separate my hand from his.
"Fuck Demi! STOP AND LET ME HELP YOU." I still resist and I don't push myself up, so he does all the work. He slowly pulls me up and back over the ledge. We both fall into the ground and sit there and cry in his arms.
"I can't do this anymore, Colin."
"We can make it through this together. Just don't give up. Promise me you won't give up."
"..I promise." I say quietly. He helps me up and we walk back to the room. He leaves out for a little while and comes back with the Doctor. Thanks to Colin, I'm now on suicide watch.
"Stay with me?" I ask.
"Yeah. We'll stay."
