I sat beside Doll on top of the big pole landing at the tightrope. We dangled our legs off the edge, watching the acts that were going on. I was currently staring in amazement at Caine, Mary and David performing their 'Flying Griffons' act. I just gotta say, they are amazing! They are everything that people have said them to be.
Just as their act neared an end, Doll pulled me to my feet. "Our act is next." she said.
"Okay." I nodded.
"When the light shines on us, you start walking towards the other end. The second you reach it, whip around, then start walking back across the rope. I will start walking too. We meet in the middle, then do what we planned, and vise versa." she announced, beaming with excitement.
"Okay." I replied, a large, bright smile painted onto my face.
I positioned myself in front of the rope. I rested one foot on it, while my other foot remained on the landing.
"And here we have our magnificent tightrope walkers!" I heard Joker cheer into a microphone. All of the lights landed on us.
Immediately, I started walking across the rope with skill, holding the black umbrella over my shoulder. I even paused, and waved one hand in the air at the crowd. The whole crowd cheered at this. I then continued walking. When I reached the other end, I turned around. After an encouraging smile from Doll, we both began to walk towards each other. I glanced down to see Joker on the ground, an awestruck look on his face, probably thinking something along the lines of 'What the heck are they doing?!'
Even the crowd seemed to freeze, wondering, pondering what we were going to do when we met. Well, they were just about to be blown away.
When we met in the middle, and as if on que, we both dropped our umbrellas, letting them float to the ground. I grinned excitedly. I steadied myself.
Doll leaped in the air, and landed perfectly landed on my shoulders. The crowd gasped in amazement, then cheered even more as Doll leaned backwards, and landed on her feet again. We continued to walk away from each other, towards the platform.
Then we started walking back towards each other, and did the same thing again when we met in the middle, except that I was the one flipping over her shoulders instead of her flipping over mine.
We then walked away from each other, and onto the platform.
Just when they thought we were done, we walked back towards each other. They thought we would do the same thing again. Oh boy were they wrong.
When we met this time, we faced sideways, so our backs were facing the crowd. See, this is why we asked Joker to put the net up, much to his confusion, as we never fell, not even once.
Then as the crowd watched, we did the unthinkable. We fell backwards. The crowd gasped in horror- heck, some even screamed in horror.
We landed softly in the net on our backs. We stood up, faced the crowd, and took a bow while grinning.
The whole crowd cheered excitedly. Joker was the most awestruck- as we had not told him about the whole handstand thing over each others shoulders and the thing where we fell. I bet that almost caused my mother a heart attack.
While the crowd began to cheer wildly, we walked to the side of the net and climbed down the ladder to the ground. When I reached the ground, my mother ran up to me, hugging me in a death hug.
"Mother..." I groaned. "The whole crowd is watching."
"Yeah, be thankful that I didn't kiss your cheek or anything like that." she commented. I snorted and laughed as she let me go of the hug.
"Yeah." I agreed, chuckling a bit.
"Well would you look at that, folks!" Joker beamed, speaking into the microphone. "What an act that was!"
I smiled. We were the last act of the show.
"Be sure to come next time we come to town! We'll always be around! We come twice a year!" he called into the microphone, and the crowd stood up, and began to depart out the tent's entrance, rambling to each other on and on about the circus act, mainly our act.
"You were great!" Adrian called, rushing up to me with a goofy grin on his face, which was unusual for him, as he was mostly always calm. Well, he does get excited a little bit. "You nearly gave me a heart attack when you both fell, though."
"Yeah." my mother agreed, nodding.
"Like, what would have happened if you landed on your face when you hit the net? Dang, that would hurt!" Adrian commented.
"But I didn't land on my face." I smirked.
"Whatever." Adrian laughed. "You could have!"
"But I didn't!" I sang teasingly.
Joker made his way over to me. "Angel, Doll! That was brilliant, but next time you fall like that, warn me before hand! You nearly gave me a heart attack!" he exclaimed, laughing. "Otherwise, you both did wonderful!"
Joker patted my head. I grinned.
"Okay, I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to go change into my pajamas. I'm tired!" I laughed, and started walking towards the tent opening.
"Goodnight!" my mother and Adrian called to me. Doll started running to catch up with me. She handed me my umbrella.
"Thanks." I thanked her, smiling as I took it.
We walked back through the snow together, towards the train. We walked up the steps, and went inside, and were immediately greeted with warmth.
Doll walked through the train cars with me, until we stopped at our car that had our bedrooms in them. They were conveniently right beside each other. My mother's and Adrian's bedroom was in the car next to us.
"Today was really fun." Doll stated, glancing at me.
"Yeah, it was." I agreed.
"Tomorrow morning after breakfast, everyone is helping to take the circus tent and everything down, and pack it all up in the storage cars near the back of the train." Doll informed me.
"Alright, I'll be there." I smiled, said goodnight to her, then walked into my bedroom to change into my pajamas, then get some good shut eye.
