We exchange our goodbyes and before I walk inside the house, he says if he can come see me in two days. I smile and nod, amazed on how much I wanted him to say that. When I close the door, I can't help but smile. I lean on the door, thinking of how crazy it was to bump into him and how I spent a whole day with him. I have not smiled like this in a while. Adrian has a way of being strong and gentle at the same time. That probably only makes sense to me.
After drooling over Adrian, I realize I'm back to reality and need to see how my grandfather is doing. When I walk into his room, all I could see was how weak he looked. He was getting worse by the second. The second he saw me, his eyes lit up. I love him so much. I don't know what I'm going to do without him.
Tom: "Lily baby, what have you been doing? You're glowing."
Lily: "Grandpa!"
He chuckles but I can tell even that small laugh hurts him.
Tom: "Well, are you going to talk about it or would you rather me talk about my very adventurous day."
My grandfather has always been sarcastic like that. He hasn't been able to get off his bed for about a month now.
Lily: "On the plane, on the ride here, I met this man who was very smart, very good looking and very funny. It happens that little clumsy me, dropped my drink on his things today."
Tom: "Lily, you need to be careful. You can't just go dropping drinks on every good looking man you see."
I laugh and roll my eyes.
Lily: "Do you want me to keep explaining or do you want me to leave you to your adventures?"
He laughs and motions me to go on.
Lily: "I haven't felt this safe or even happy in a while."
Tom: "So you really like this man?"
Lily: "Well I just met him but yes, I guess I do."
Tom: "Then go for it. Never let go of the things that make you happy. Plus, you're only 25; you should be having fun and enjoying your youth."
Lily: "But grandpa, I leave back to Florida after break is over. You know that!"
Tom: "I know, but just do what makes you happy and the world will fall into place."
Lily: "Thank you."
A little tear fell down my face. He lifted his hand up and wiped it away.
Tom: "Lily, I don't have much time left on my card, so you have to listen to me. I want you to grow old, older than me. I want you to feel free, happy, and alive! Find a man who will protect you. Find a man who will hold on to you in the darkest of times. When you do find this man, no matter how stubborn you are, do not let him go. Believe in yourself sweetie. Be the best you can be. Prosper in what you do and never let go of your dreams."
Lily: "Thank you grandpa, for everything."
Tom: "Your welcome baby. Remember, always live your life to the fullest."
Lily: "I love you!"
Tom: "Its hard not to!"
He never fails to make me smile. I go up to him and hug him; I probably embraced him too hard but he didn't seem to mind. I look up through my lashes.
Lily: "I've been meaning to ask you; why did you send me a limo to come pick me up when I arrived?
Tom: "A limo? I never sent a limo?"
Lily: "Yes you did, the driver got out of the car and showed me proof that you sent it for me."
Tom: "Sorry Lily, I don't know anything about a limo."
Lily: "Okay, never mind"
Something was strange. Someone else in my family probably sent it.
Tom: "Be careful Lily. I know you, you think your safe and I've told you that psychos have a plethora of ways to find who they are looking for. I don't want you getting hurt. Find out whoever sent that limo. I do not want to leave this world knowing you are unsafe."
I nodded because at the moment I was trying to not look confused or worried. I didn't know how to answer. I hugged him, tucked him in and held his hand until he fell asleep.
