Chapter 31 (Adrian)

Bret: "Hey buddy, how are you feeling?"

Adrian: "Like shit."

Brett: "Well that's a step up from how you were before."

Adrian: "Hahaha, you're so funny Bret! Where's Lily?!?"

Brett: "Well there's no easy way to say this but...."

I start to freak out and shake uncontrollably.

Brett: "Relax man...she's in the bathroom."

Adrian: "Asshole! Don't do that to me!"

Brett: "Sorry man but you should've seen yourself."

Adrian: "But really, how is she?"

Bret: "She has a couple fractured ribs but other than that she is getting better."

I take a deep breath and slowly let it go.

Adrian: "Oh, thank God."

Bret: "You're a lucky man."

Adrian: "What happened to Cole?"

He looks away for a second and I see a small gleam in his eyes.

Bret: "He's gone. He helped me and that's it. You don't have to worry about him coming after Lily anymore."

Adrian: "I'm sorry man."

Bret: "No you're not."

Adrian: "No, you're right, I'm not. But he was your brother and I know deep down, he did mean something to you."

Bret: "Thanks, I had gotten to him before he died. I think he was even going to turn himself in. Regret showed clearly all over his face."

Adrian: "He's with Mike now, and that's all he ever wanted."

Bret: "Thanks again man."

Adrian: "For what?"

Bret: "For not going ape shit on me, about me being his brother."

Adrian: "I did freak out at first but you always protected Lily and that's all I ever ask for."

Bret: "So, she's it for you?"

Adrian: "More than you will ever know."

Right then and there, another nurse walks in with a clipboard full of papers.

Nurse: "Adrian Smith."

Adrian: "Yes?"

Nurse: "Hello sir, I'm glad to see you're doing better."

Adrian: "Is there something wrong?"

Nurse: "It depends on how you want to take it."

I look at her with confusion written all over my face.

Nurse: "I would like for Mrs. Walker to be here when I tell you."

As if on cue, Lily steps out of the bathroom with her nurse by her side. The second our eyes meet; her eyes fill with tears. I slowly get off the bed and walk over to her. My arms open wide to embrace her as if it is the last thing I'm going to do. I try to be delicate so I won't hurt her but I can't help the need of having her in my arms, safe and with me.

I bring her face to mine and I gently kiss her with all the love and happiness that lives within me. Then I feel the rumble of a moan come out of her and suddenly I forget the need to be delicate, so I take her kiss in deeper. She is mine, is all I could think. The second she whimpers a little, I break the kiss careful not to hurt her and touch my forehead to hers.

Adrian: "We did it, we survived, and it's over."

Lily: "I love you Adrian Smith."

Adrian: "I love you too Lily Walker."

I place a kiss on her forehead and also realize that we have had an audience this entire time.

Bret: "Ya'll watch too many sappy movies."

We all laugh, as I help Lily onto her bed and I sit down next to her. I reach for her hand and hold hers in mine.

Nurse: "Alright, now that we are all here. The most recent results came in and we found something in Lily."

Lily squeezes my hand.

Adrian: "Something?"

Nurse: "Actually not something, someone."

Did I hear her correctly? I look over to Lily and the water works were back.

Adrian: "I'm going to be a father?"

Lily: "I'm going to be a mother?"

Bret: "Yes guys, you know that usually happens when you have a kid."

We both laugh and smile at each other.

Adrian: "Are those happy tears?"

Lily: "They are everything tears. We are going to have a baby!"

I place a small peck on her lips and wipe away the tear that was falling down her face.

Nurse: "It was a true miracle the baby survived but we checked, and it is very healthy."

Now, I am the one in tears. I look around and Bret is now introducing himself to Skylar, Jesse is hugging Lily and I'm just sitting in complete awe. After everything we went through, I am glad we still have each other to celebrate the new life we are bringing into the world.

As I look over to Bret, I signal him that it's time. He walks over to me and says "good luck man." I walk over to stand in front of Lily. She is so beautiful. I am not a scientist but if it were up to me, this world spins because of her. She is mine and I want everyone to know it.

Once I am in front of her, I get down on one knee and look up at her. Her gasp was probably heard from across the room, but the smile on her face showed me everything I needed to know.

Adrian: "Lily, you are beautiful, sexy and extremely intelligent. You are my world, my life and now the mother to my child. I will not be able to sleep a day in my life without you. With everything we have gone through and all of our problems, I can say we have fallen together. I want you to be by my side forever and always."

Through her tears she turns to look at Jesse, who is also in tears.

Adrian: "So Lily, be mine and marry me?"

She looks down at me and at the ring I'm presenting to her.

Lily: "I've always been yours, since the second you sat down next to me on that plane."

Adrian: "So is that a yes?"

Lily: "Yes!"

I gather her in my arms and place a passionate kiss on her lips.

Adrian: "You are mine Lily, my past, present..."

I intertwine my hand with hers and lower them down to her stomach. I look her in the eyes and smile.

Adrian: "and future."

I place a small and gentle kiss on her stomach and then place another kiss on her forehead.

As everyone is going around giving their congratulations, someone walks in through the door behind us. He is unfamiliar to me and walks in breathing heavily, so I instinctively move in front of Lily, blocking her view to who it is.

Adrian: "Who are you? And why are you here?"

He completely ignores me and walks closer towards us.

Adrian: "I asked you a question!"

I feel Lily lean over and try to see who it is. When she tries to move me a little, I hear a small gasp.

Alex: "Lily?"

Adrian: "I'm not going to ask you again."

Lily: "Its okay Adrian."

I look at her confused.

Lily: "This is Alex Mitchell."
