Chapter 17: Miranda, Audrey Johnson & Lamborghini
For years I content myself to live in silence and build high walls around me to keep people from coming in.
My life revolves inside a banal comfort zone I set for myself but this girl sitting beside me seems to break all what I have established for myself. The high walls, the comfort zone, they just vanish when I’m with her and it’s confusing me to some point that I keep wondering to myself how did she do it.
I know I am very oblivious in the field of love and relationship but I am a very observant guy when it comes to reading people.
Aria Gabriels might be all smiles and cute, jolly and problem-free, but I know deep inside of her is a big ball of mystery. A personality that is full of secrets she has been keeping to herself from a long time.
I may not have given much thought and attention in reading or observing the person within Aria before, but it is because she’s good at keeping a very believable act of a very happy, stress free, jovial person. Quite the contrary in what she is showing to me right now. If it weren’t from the slip of the tongue by Brody, I wouldn’t have noticed there is a big secret this girl has been hiding.
A secret I wasn’t supposed to know.
And now, I’m on this situation where I have to be the person that she can disclose herself to. I need to be that person.
Even if I don’t seem that type of dude people confide their problems with, anti-social people are good listeners. We may not talk much or give the best advice but we listen.
“Brody told you.” She stated. Her eyes are now brimming with tears.
“It was an accident. He really didn’t mean to tell me that. It just… came out of his mouth.” I assured her, squeezing her hand gently. I hate how I feel so helpless right now, having no choice but to just lay in the bed and be a vegetable for the next ten days.
I mean, I want to hug her. I want her in my arms. I want to embrace her and be the person she wanted me to be at the moment.
But here I am, lying uselessly with a dislocated lower back joint, just watching and waiting for her to break down and cry.
A single tear fell out of her right eye and she immediately wipe it with her palm. She looks away from me and I heard her breathe in heavily. “So I guess no secret is really safe huh?”
“Look, you don’t have to explain yourself. I just wanted you to know that I know that.” I answered immediately in a rush, I doubt if she even get my words right.
And I guess she did hear me right because she shakes her head swiftly and looks back at me. “No, you already know something, might as well tell you everything so you’re aware how messed up my life had been before this thing between us get serious.”
Before this thing between us get serious…
“Hey!” I almost yelled and that surprised her so I paused for a second then continued calmly this time. “What do you mean before this thing gets serious? Haven’t I made myself clear that I am seriously… in adoration with you and—“
Aria’s snort cut me off. “In adoration with me?”
“I’m not finished.” I glared at her then I continued. “I adore you and I don’t know if you’re trying to scare me off or whatever that is you’re trying to achieve when you told me how messed up you are…” I trailed, looking at her seriously as I tell her clearly, “But that won’t work.”
