Chapter 2: Social Graces of a Fetus

Turns out, Aria Gabriels smiles a lot, in the most literal sense.

She smiles at everything.

When Mr. Frederick calls her name, she smiles.

When somebody calls her name, she turns around and smiles.

When she dropped her pen, she smiles before she picked it up.

"She is a one happy person." I heard Drake mused behind me, obviously observing her as well.

Natalie was right. People are excited to see a new face around here. Even I can’t help myself to stare at her.

When Mr. Frederick called it a day, I couldn't have been happier to leave.

As I gather up my things, a piece of paper fell from the pages of my notebook. When I picked it up it, it's a flyer for the basketball try out.

At first, I wonder who put it in here but then my eyes flickered to Drake, beaming at me.

"No." I mouthed him.

"Why?" He replied in a blink of an eye.

"Because I have better things to do." I replied.

Drake rolled his eyes, not buying my excuse. "And basketball is not a better thing to do?"

I just shrugged, deciding not to answer.

I really like to play basketball with my friends, and believe me, they are not that many. I can count them with one hand.

When it comes to basketball, it’s a full time energy supplier for me. It keeps me motivated and fit. I tried football but I’m not as good at it as I am at basketball.

The only thing that is weighing me down to be part of our basketball team is my social skills.

I don't know what's wrong with me but I only talk to ten people, family included.

I'm not exactly a friend material.

“Come on man, you play good, you know that and the team needs that.” Drake pushed. “Just think about it.” He said and patted me before walking away.

“Think about the cheerleaders!” He called over his shoulder.

By cheerleaders he meant Georgina and her slaves.

Walking to my next class, I heard someone calling my name.

Actually, someone is shouting my name.

“NATHANIEL!”

I ignored it and kept on walking, probably some girl.

It happens all the time. Girls calling me and trying to make a conversation. Their perseverance and dedication really amazes me.

It’s not that girls don’t attract me, it’s just that for over the past nineteen years of my existence, no girl has ever been very interesting for me.

Yes they have boobs and boobs are the greatest blessing of all but there is just something about girls that makes me really uncomfortable.

I turned around the corner and was glad that whoever was calling me decided to stop.

But suddenly I heard running footsteps behind me and I was yanked back and forced to turn around.
