Chapter 11: Slender Night
“So tell me, why am I only seeing seniors everywhere I go?” I heard Aria ask.
We were sitting, or, they were sitting. Drake and I were lying on the open grass field outside the Gym, bushed out of our minds. The newly cut grass is tickling the back of my head making me roll to the side only to see a very exposed left leg of Aria Gabriels.
She’s sitting Indian style and her skirt was somewhat pulled higher, showing an excessive amount of flawlessness.
Nice.
“Xavier is a very big campus. Each year level has its own mini-campus. The closest to ours is the junior grounds. It’s probably a ten minute drive from here... That’s why we only get to see students in our level.” I heard Natalie explained, dragging me out from perving Aria’s legs and rolling back to my previous position.
We were in a circle. Drake and I were yoking the structure because we’re lying and the rest of them were sitting, each one of them has pen and homeworks in their laps, books and notes and papers scattered on the center looking as if some kind of peace offering to the gods.
“But we are the center of the campus so all the big events are celebrated here.” Natalie added, bowing her head and twitch her mouth from side to side as she glared at the paper in her lap. “Drake, can you help me with this? It’s Math.” She said, yanking Drake’s foot but he just wiggles it out from her grasp.
“I’m too tired to think. You do it. You got a 90 in the X.E.E. anyway.” Drake grunted, lying back in his chest.
Natalie glared at him for a while before crawling her way towards me and yanking my foot forcefully. “Get up you loser twin. Teach me Math.” She ordered rudely.
“X.E.E.?” I heard Aria asked.
I saw Brody raising his eyebrow at her. “Xavier’s Entrance Exam, stupid. What’d you got anyway?”
“Well I’m so sorry I’m not super smart like you.” She snapped, obviously offended by the rude comment. “But I got a 90 too.” She added proudly.
That made me swiftly turn my head to look at her and swear mentally when I almost kissed her knee. I got up immediately, stopped breathing all together, staring wide eyed on the ground.
Nice one.
“Well it’s official. Nathaniel is the dumb one.” Josh laughs loudly. “Good thing you’re a pretty man.”
“Nerds.” I deadpanned.
It is just so inhumanly impossible to get a 90 average and above in X.E.E., and these guys managed to get passed it. In Xavier, there is no such thing as dumb people. Dumb looking, there’s many but dumb in a sense of being brainless, no one. Every year there are at least 70,000 qualified applicants, meaning your GWA is above 90%, to take X.E.E. In those qualified applicants, only an average of 7% passes. That’s why they worship the scholars and adore the blondes.
“X.E.E. is chicken.” Drake snorted, getting up, rubbing his eyes and snatching the paper out of Natalie’s hand and stared at it for a few seconds. “The answer is forty-two.” He said and Natalie gaped at him.
There is something odd at the way Drake looked at her. I’m sure of it. There is really something odd.
“Aren’t we supposed to use a calculator first or… scratch or something like that?” She trailed disbelievingly but Drake just shrugged.
Drake is a very intelligent guy despite the whole gangster physique. He’s a geek to the very heart of his persona and he’s very open about it. It’s just that he’s always lazy and he plays basketball and possesses the whole I am a jock physical qualities that you always forget that the guy can actually solve equations, mentally.
