Chapter 22: Unexpected Events

“Ouch!” I moaned.

“Keep still. Your nose is still bleeding.” Aria ordered. A damp cloth on her hand, a pack of ice on the other. “Brody, you are such a moron. Nate had just gone from recovery and you already gave him a knocked-out on the face!”

“I wasn’t knocked-out.” I denied immediately.

“Oh. But you are.” Brody interjected proudly. It wasn’t everyday he can feel the satisfaction of beating me up. “You can’t blame me for punching you. I honestly thought you commit fornication with my cousin.”

Aria slapped him in the back of his head. “Moron.”

These two cousins- Aria and Brody- possibly inherit the violent genes from their parents. I mean, I was bedridden for days because of Aria’s accidental shove on the door that got the joint in my back slightly dislocated. Today, I just got a solid punch in the face from Brody.

Seriously, violent genes are in their blood..

Aside from my bruising cheek, the fact that I got stared at a lot the whole day irritated me to no end. I actually was starting to believe that these people really missed me. It wasn’t until my last class that my name got called in the speaker.

“William, Nathaniel Cedric and Logan, Drake Matthew. Please proceed to the Gymnasium immediately.” A very formal woman’s voice announced. Then we heard some scratching in the background as if the microphone was suddenly taken away. And then, a booming loud voice shook the whole campus.

“GET IN HERE MOFOS. BASKETBALL PRACTICE WILL START IN FIVE MINUTES. LATE COMERS WILL WISH THEY ARE NEVER BORN!”

Drake swiftly stood up in his seat and dragged me with him outside the room. “First thing you gotta know about the team, when the coach is PMSing, you gotta run no matter what.”

I studied him for a second. “Then why are we walking so slowly?”

“Because we are too cool to run.” He shrugged. “Besides, you can always make up an excuse that you can’t run because your back is still recovering and tell the coach that I’m a great friend with a kind heart that offered to help you walk your way.”

I rolled my eyes. “I’m not disabled.”

“You will be, when coach is done with you. You missed a lot of ball practice, buddy.”

I shouldn’t have underestimated the threat of “ALL LATE COMERS WILL WISH THEY ARE NEVER BORN”. I am sure I’m pretty much disabled after 200 pushups and 5 laps in the humongous field of Xavier.

Drake and I fainted to say the least.

So much for being “too cool to run”

I woke up hearing something singing darkly inside my room. Like chanting a dark spell or humming some creepy old tune.

I opened my eyes and it’s dark. I’m in my room. The curtains are closed and there is no sign of light outside. It’s probably evening now.

“Hmm shabidee apupu akleklek bumba…”

What was that?

I’m still lying in my stomach and I noticed I can’t seem to move. Then I saw what seems like a rope surrounding me.

Am I tied in the bed?

“Hmm hanribrudi grekprak aklivichi…”

I felt something cold dripping in my back and I became aware that I’m shirtless which is confusing because I didn’t remember taking off my shirt before I fainted.
