Chapter 30: Pet

A year ago I was living the life of a tree.

I exist but people rarely even care so it’s like I’m not existing at all, which is fine with me because I am an introvert person and I love to be alone most of the time.

But ever since I met Aria, the tree life I am living unexpectedly turned into a magical forest of unicorns.

People suddenly became so interested in my lifestyle... and her lifestyle.

As of now, I am sitting on a chair, in the middle of my father’s office, in front of his long wooden desk, with him sitting on the other side.

This looks like a scene where usually terrible things will happen to me.

“Your grandmother called.” My father started. “I expected her to be mad, since you did display a very... ‘ungentleman’ approach of kissing a girl, grabbing her butt like a wild animal.”

I pursed my lips. I know the video will go viral but I didn’t expect it to go viral so much that even my grandmother knows it.

What is worse is that I am not the only one affected by it. Aria is also affected, and her family must be so disappointed, maybe embarrassed is the accurate feeling.

She’s from the family of lawyers, one of the most respected families in the corporate world. I don’t think they will be proud when they see their daughter having a ‘scandalous make-out session’ video going viral on the social media.

“I thought no one was in the corridor.” I told my father. “If I knew, I wouldn’t do that.”

I adjusted myself in my seat and started toying with the Rubric’s cube in my hands, trying my best to avoid having eye contact with my him. He is obviously having the fun of his life with this kind of interrogation. His facial muscles are hardened in a very clear attempt to control himself from laughing.

“I know.” He nodded. “I understand that. You’re a teenager with suppressed needs--“

I cut him off right away. “Let’s not discuss my urges.”

“... like a wild beast in search of meat.” He continues.

“Father.” I gritted my teeth in embarrassment.

He chuckles for a second but clears his throat immediately. All traces of humor in his face are gone and replaced by seriousness. He straightens himself up, crossed his arms over his table, leans his face closer to me, and then he locks gazes with me.

His blue eyes are staring straight at me in a way that I am so familiar with.

It’s Lecture time.

Looking back at him, it never fails to amuse me how alike we look. Everything in his face was like directly copied and pasted to mine. Creepy.

“You know, kissing Aria like that is perfectly normal for a couple. In a private area where no one else can see.” He added without delay. “When it is done in public, it is a different story.”

I sigh heavily. “Public display of affection. I know that. But seriously, what is the big deal? I see guys my age doing that and no one really cares!” I demanded.

“Because those guys your age are not as famous as you are.” He pointed out. “You see, everything you do, everything you say, and everything that happens to you or will happen to you... just basically everything, will get ten times more attention than all the boys at your school will ever get in their lifetime. You are that big deal for the media.” My father finished in a serious note.
