Chapter 10: Friends

There is only one thing my mind is capable of processing right now. The one thing I am sure is not a product of my imagination from the delirious stage of sleep deprivation.

          It is the pain.

It is as if I was punched by a professional world Boxer right on the aim. A one big blow directly to my left jaw that resulted in an immediate knock-out. The undeniably excruciating throbbing is the only thing that keeps me from completely thinking this was just a hallucination due to my lack of sleep.

“Oh. My. God.”

That is the last thing I heard before I passed out.

I am in a bed. That is for sure.

I had been sleeping. That is also for sure.

My jaw hurts so bad. I am so sure about that.

I heard people murmuring in the background and I can smell a strong whiff of sanitizer in the air. The smell of a Clinic.

“What if he became a vegetable?!”

“Chill Nat, it’s just the jaw. He’s supposed to wake up soon.”

On cue, I opened my eyes abruptly and died.

Heart failure due to large amount of terror, fright and massive combination of trepidation and alarm that resulted to an immediate clog of whatever nerves responsible for sustaining oxygen in the heart to keep beating because there is a terrifying face in front of me.

“Scared yaaa...” Drake sang loudly and it took me a couple of seconds to regain my senses and get back to the real world. I whole heartedly declare a string of profanities at him.

Somehow, I can’t fully open my mouth and my words only came with less impact than I intended to.

Bewildered, I cup my left jaw with my hand and scrunched my eyebrows, thinking deeply when and why and how it hurts so badly.

I felt the bed dip and two arms wrapped tightly around me. “You alright?” Natalie asked.

“My… jaw…”

Memories of my last coherent thoughts before I black out rushed into my brain making me wince.

“Aria punched you.” Natalie said.

There was a very long pause.

“Come again.” I asked, making sure if I heard it right.

“Aria punched you.” Natalie repeated, standing up.

Aria punched me…

Aria Gabriels punched me in the face?

It was like my brain cells started to decay one by one which makes the capacity to think logically very difficult. I honestly have no idea what to think about that at all. I have so many questions wanting to be answered but all I managed to ask was a big fat WHY.

“You know you have weird tendencies when you didn’t sleep long enough right?” Brody started, sitting on the edge of my bed.

I nodded.

“Like that time you kissed Joshua Harriot on the lips.” He continued, raising both his eyebrows and a knowing smile crossed his features.

I wanted to go berserk and rip off his eyebrows and punch the smile off his face. That is a taboo topic that never dares to come up in a conversation for almost five years.
