"Hi" Brooklyn smiled at Luke as she stepped to the side, letting him come in.
It was Saturady morning, and Luke had come over to Brooklyn's house to help her with History, like they had planned.
Luke was well aware of how Brooklyn was now dating someone else, but he tried to think that they were still together.
Somehow.
Brooklyn closed the door after Luke had greeted her, and she led them to her living room. She had already set out some snacks for the two of them, as well as her history textbooks and notebooks.
They both sat down on the couch, distance between the two of them, and Brooklyn picked up one of the textbooks off the coffee table and flipped it open to the current chapter that they were learning about in school.
"So, where are we starting?" Luke asked her.
"Here" Brooklyn stopped on a page of the book before handing it over to Luke. He took the book from her and scanned over the page.
"The Canadian Confederation" he read the title of the chapter.
"That's what we're learning in school" she reminded him. He nodded his head.
"So what exactly do you need my help with?"
"Well, apart from studyingg together, there are some sections of the chapter that I need help understanding. Some of it just doesn't make sense" she explained. Luke nodded once more.
"Okay, which parts?"
Brooklyn leaned over, her arm full on touching Luke's as she flipped through acouple pages to the right one. She tried her best not to blush at the mere fact that there arms were only pressed together, but she couldn't stop her face from turning slightly red.
"Um, this is one of the parts" as soon as she found the correct page that she was looking for, she went back to her sitting position, feeling slight tingles where Luke's arm used to be.
"The Manifest Destiny? Ehat apart about it is confusing?" he asked her, looking at her while hoping that the blush from his face had left. He, too, was affected just by them touching.
"Well, it's an external factor that lead to the confederation, but the whole concept given is acting as if it were a specific event or time period. Like the Trent affair or the Fenian raid or something like that"
"Well, I can see where you're confused. The Manifest Destiny is actually a philosiphy, but there is a certain time period where it was mostly shown. Where the term first was brought up because of the situations that were happening. So in another sense, it's sort of is like a historic event" Luke explained to her.
Brooklyn nodded her head at him in understanding.
Ofcourse, she already knew all of the material. This was 8th grade sort of stuff. But now that she had thought about it, that concept had always bugged her.
"Okay, so because of the annexationist in the American civil war, the philosiphy arose from that specific event, which is where it mostly came from?" she clarified, and Luke nodded his head at her.
"But keep in mind that it's not just the American Civil War. It's also in the shaping on the constitution, the republican party and-"
"How the American abrogation of reciprocity" Brooklyn finished for him. He smiled at her.
"Correct"
And that's basically how the next couple of hours for them went. Brooklyn asked about something. Luke helped her understand it better, and once she understood it, they moved on to something else.
After Luke had gone home later that evening, Brooklyn sat on her bed in her room, texting Marcus after she had recieved a text message from him.
Marcus - watcha doin?
B - just finished my study session with my friend
Marcus - which friend is this??

B - watever, doesn't concern me. i'll ttyl k? c u at school tmmr
Marcus - i'll c u at school then
Brooklyn tossed her phone onto her beside table, flooping back down onto her bed.
The only thing running through out her mind was what motives is Marcus talkig about?
