"So you know this guy?"

"Yes" she whispered, closing her eyes and then opening them up again, not wanting to believe it.

"Who is he?"

"My ex-boyfriend"

"The one you dated after Luke?" Michael asked as they collected the things they found, shoved them into the old backpack and made their way back to Brooklyn's house.

"Before" she wrapped her arms around herself and Michael sensed that this was a touchy subject that she probably didn't want to bring up.

"I'm guessing that this was a bad relationship, so you don't have to say anything else about it if you don't want to" he told her, draping his arm around her shoulders and hugging her for comfort. Brooklyn nodded her head. This wasn't something she wanted to talk about. If she had found this 'evidence' with Luke, then she wouldn't have to explain herself. Luke already knew about Kyle. About the bad things that he had done to her.

But the real question that was going through her mind was,

How did his driver's license get into the park?

Kyle hated going out places when he and Brooklyn had reached the three month mark of their relationship. He didn't take her places anymore, do things for her, have dates with her. Looking back in hindsight, that really should've ticked her off that something wasn't right. Maybe the relationship wouldn't have dragged on as long as it did. As painfully as it did.

"Can I see the card for a second?" she asked Michael as the came onto her street. Michael nodded, removing his arm from her shoulders and fishing his hand into the backpack for the card that had unsettled Brooklyn. He found it and handed it to her, and she wiped away some more of the stained dirt, looking at the date in which it was taken, and the date that it was supposed to expire.

"What is it?" Michael noticed her frown and the way that she bit her lip, and he stopped them from walking, just as they got to the middle of Brooklyn's driveway.

"This card. It was taken... almost 5, maybe even 6, months ago," she looked up at Michael, "When was my accident?"

Michael thought for a moment, "About 5 or 6 months ago.." he trailed off, almost connecting the dots.

"That can't be right though. He's supposed to be in jail..."

"Jail? What the f*ck did this guy do to put himself in jail?" Michael asked, his eyes wide.

"He almost killed me" she said absent mindedly.

"Brooklyn, this guy is really dangerous. Why the f*ck is he not in jail?"

"That's what I don't understand either" curiosity and fear were prominent in her voice, and she looked back up at Michael.

"This isn't making any sense. He must be out of jail if he has his driver's license photo was taken. It's still valid too" Michael said, looking over her shoulder at the card to check it's expiree date.

"No. He shouldn't be. He still has about 13 years in there to serve. And if he was out, the police would've called me to notify me that he was out. But they didn't" she told him.

None of the dots were really connecting. If Kyle was out of jail, then the police would've told her. If he were still in jail, like he should be, then why was an up-to-date drivers license photo of him found in the park? Why was it taken and found at the scene of her accident as well?

"Michael" both Brooklyn and Michael's heads snapped in the direction of the voice whom had called Michael.

"Luke" Michael said back simply, both him and Brooklyn looking at Luke's front porch, where Luke stood.
