The amount of awkwardness in the air was suffocating.

They were sitting on Luke's couch, supposed to be working on history together, but instead, were not talking at all.

Luke's mother, Liz, was out of the house, so Luke had it all to himself, and Brooklyn came over, as per-usual, for their study sessions. That much between them hadn't really changed.

"How are you and Ashley doing?" Brooklyn cleared her throat awkwardly as she took a glance at Luke. She couldn't deny the strange attraction that she was getting towards him. She knew that something was there.

"Great. She's, great" he stared infront of him.

They were both silent for awhile, no jokingness at all in the atmosphere.

"Is she a better girlfriend then how I was?" Brooklyn didn't even try to deny the hurt in her voice. The hostility.

She was growing intense discomfort whenever Luke talked or was with Ashley. She wasn't sure what it was, and she hated to think that it could possibly be jealousy.

Why be jealous of Ashley, of all people?

"No relationship can replace the one that we had" he sent her a small smile before he glanced away.

"Tell me about it. About, us" she looked over at Luke once more. She missed hearing about the things that they did together. She loved the stories he used to tell her.

"Okay," Luke sighed in rememberance, "We were.... inseperable" he started.

"We did everything together. And no, not in that couple way so we felt obligated to spend time with eachother, but in that natural way. Where we craved eachother's presence, basically"

"I would always be at your house, or you would be at mine. We would either go out or just be lazy. We only wanted to be with eachother" Luke couldn't keep his eyes off of Brooklyn as he spoke, and she couldn't tear her eyes from him either. It was unnerving, in a sense.

"I'm sorry" she found herself saying to him and he shrugged his shoulders.

"It wasn't your fault B" he whispered, and she barely just caught the use of the nickname.

"B" she repeated to herself.

"I'm sorry that I blew you off for her. I shouldn't have, I really regret it" he admitted to her, but she dismissed it.

"She's your girlfriend. It's fine"

"That's not the point"

"Then what is?"

"I shouldn't be ditching you for her. What we had was special! I shouldn't have just given up on you.." he trailed off, realizing that he had slipped up.

She frowned, "You gave up on me?" she scooted further away from him.

"I-I- yes," he sighed, turning away in shame, "It was a moment of me being selfish. When I helped you, and you would remember things but not remember me, it hurt. It hurt alot. And I didn't like how much it hurt. And I just tried to take the easy way out and move on"

She didn't answer him. A large amount of betrayl was rushing through her at impeccable speed.

"Okay"

"Okay?"

"You didn't have a right to help me. I get that. You let me go. You moved on. I need to try and just leave that be"

"What? What do you mean?"

She turned her body fully towards Luke, "I feel it Luke. The hurt. My mind doesn't comprehend it, but my heart does," she pointed to her heart, "My heart misses you. Gets jealous when you're with Ashley. Get's hurt when you kiss her and touch her like I know youbused to do with me"
