She woke up with a start, her forehead lined with sweat and stray tears falling down her cheeks. Her heart was beating fast, slowing down as she realized that it all wasn't real.
It all wasn't real.
From beside her, Luke's eyes fluttered open tiredly. He yawned before seeing that she was awake, and then he glanced at the glowing digital clock.
2:18am.
"43 minutes" he sat up as his voice came out groggily through the night.
She had only been asleep for 43 minutes.
"Go back to sleep" she dismissed him, not wanting to keep him up with her.
It had only been three weeks since Brooklyn had almost been killed again by Kyle and Marcus. Three weeks since she had been beaten and bruised. Three weeks since she had plunged a knife into Kyle and killed him.
The nightmares hadn't stopped since.
"I sleep when you sleep" he told her firmly, waking up more as the minutes ticked on.
"It's fine, Luke. I'm fine" but she couldn't even believe the words herself. She was longing to forget what had happened. What she had been through. But she couldn't.
"Lie back down" he told her gently, cooing to her as he too lay back down. She did as he asked, and he instantly pulled her into his embrace once she was lying down again.
Luke stroked her hair and Brooklyn closed her eyes, trying to let Luke lull her to sleep.
After she had stabbed Kyle, Marcus lunged at her. He had her pinned to the floor as she sobbed, the knife raised to stab her chest when Ashton and Calum stormed through the room, the police right behind them.
Marcus was tackled off of Brooklyn before he could kill her, and she curled herself into a ball on the floor as she cried. She couldn't believe that she had actually been saved mere seconds before her own death.
Luke and Michael came in after, and Luke immediatly had Brook in his arms. He cradeled her as she trembled, and he knew that she would never be the same again.
Marcus was sentenced to life in prison without bail and parol. Marcus was schedualed for another trial due to the fact that he was being given his and Kyle's charges. And even though Brooklyn had commited first degree murder, she wasn't charged due to the fact that what she had done had been primarily out of self defence.
"Remember when we first met?" Luke asked her, and she nodded her head.
"I was so timid and shy. I didn't talk to anyone but my mom" she recalled, and Luke hummed in response.
"You were so pretty, I couldn't even talk to you properly," he let out a short chuckle, and Brooklyn felt her cheeks blush, "I knew I liked you from the first time I saw you"
"The first time you saw me, you didn't even smile at me" she looked up at him and giggled.
"I was nervous"
"I thought you were being an ass"
"Shut up" he groaned as he looked away from her. Brooklyn smiled and shifted her position so that she was facing directly across from Luke.
"Remember when we first kissed?"
Luke's expression immediaty went to content and he smiled, "That was like, the best day of my life" he admitted shyly.
They both went silent, remembering different things, and Luke wrapped his arms around Brooklyn's waist once again, pulling her against his bare chest.
"Remember when you forgot about me?" he asked her quietly, and she didn't say anything as he continued to stroke her hair.
"Yeah," she whispered, "I can't believe that I broke up with you-"
"You weren't you, B. It's alright" Luke cut her off before she could list off all of the things in which she was guilty for.
"I'm still always going to be sorry" she told him. He leaned down and pressed his lips against hers in the dark of the night, and she kissed him back, bringing one hand up to up his cheek.
Once Luke pulled away, he leaned his forhead against Brooklyn's, and she carressd his cheek with her thumb, the way she knew he loved it.
"I love you" he whispered to her.
"I love you more" she whispered back to him.
"Impossible"
