The one night alone

The training

About 8 am the next morning I heard Jaxon turn off the TV and walk into the kitchen to start breakfast. I waited til the smell of bacon was strong enough to wake up Jacob I got up and followed him to the kitchen to eat. Instead of pancakes like we had eaten the day before, there was a plate of crêpes and bowls of berries. Jacob looked at me.
"Where's my pancakes?"
Jaxon responded for me.
"I made crêpes instead, you can still make your faces on it if you want. But I prefer to it it the proper way." He enhanced the proper and sat up and acted like an adult. Jacob watched him for the rest of the meal, copying everything Jaxon did. If he'd reach for the strawberries so would Jacob, if he'd scratch his head so would Jacob. I was especially grateful when he copied Jaxon putting his dishes in the dishwasher. I started the dishwasher and felt a tug on the shirt.
"Your boyfriend said we could do guy things! Can I do guy things? Please? I want to be a man!" He showed off his little guns. I just laughed and nodded watching him run into the other room screaming with joy. I decided to go change, but realized I only had this outfit and my dress. I groaned.
"Hey Jaxon?" He peeked his head in.
"Take my credit card and go shopping. Its Sunday though so you might not have as many options."
"Don't read my mind." I pointed my finger sternly at him. He put his hands up in defense.
"I'm going to teach you how to block your thoughts when we get back from our hike." I took his credit card and nodded then threw on my boots. I thought to Jaxon in the kitchen. Please keep him safe, he's all I have left.
I will, I promise. Have fun ok?

I walked out before I said I love you too. But I still think he heard it.

8 hours, 10 stores, and $700 later... I returned to the motel. I walked in to see both of the boys asleep on the couch. I went into the "my" room and started to hang up the clothes. I heard Jaxon walk in.
"Do you need any help?" His arms wrapped around my body. I relaxed into him and held him there for a second. The shrugged him off.
"Nope. Just finished." I turned around and tried to walk past him. He grabbed my hand and held my face. Pain seeping through his eyes.
"Katie please, just stop. You keep pushing me out. It hurts. I freaking love you and I know you love me. But you can't forgive me. I'm sorry ok? Ive been patient letting you adjust keeping my distance. Helping you. I just don't know what else to do... I want you Katie. Forever. Can you just upgrade me to a good friend, instead of this frenemie crap I am now?"
I looked into his eyes, Deciding what to say. Instead I kissed him on the forehead, and lightning speeded out. He walked out a minute later smiling from ear to ear. I rolled my eyes and took Jacob into his room. When I walked back out he was still grinning staring at me.
"So do you want t-" I cut him off
"What do you need to teach me. Nows the time Jacob is off to bed for the night." His face fell and got angry for a minute but then he sighed.
"Right, ok, you ready?" I nodded. He grabbed a price of paper and started writing. "These are the ranks of out clan and their powers. Biecen, he's basically the king he has every ability. Bieceness is the queen, she has every ability and is the only one in the clan that can give birth. Its always a son and that would be me. The ciencen which means I'm pretty much the prince and I also have every power. Your the cienceness your like the princess, you have every power and you.. Nm that comes later." He paused and looked up at me. I looked at him annoyed that he wasn't telling me everything he was supposed to about me. But before I could say anything he continued.
"There's the Trian they are the highest rank. They can say anything and unless you have the same ability you will believe them. Also anything they say will happen. They control the future. They are the most deadly. Next is the Laughlin, second highest. They can control you mind, read what your thinking and change it, images, memories they just change it. Then there's the voicki they are kinda like the magic ones, they can cast spells, heal sicknesses, cause curses. They are basically witches that drink blood. Then there's the rien. They basically are the brawns. Strongest, fastest, and are blockheads. Some of the most impatient and rude people ever. Basically jocks. That's all we have. There used to be another group called the eitak, they had the most amazing ability. They can alter memories, or place new ones. They can also erase emotion. They were the kindest people. But my grandfather had them all murdered. None exist on the planet. Because of that the ability was lost. My grandfather thought he'd still have the ability but as the last one died the power was lost. My father killed my grandfather. But the ability never returned."
He was hiding several things from me. What was it.
"I'm not telling you Everything tonight. It'll overwhelm you."
"Don't read my brain!!! You are going to teach me how to block it and your going to do it now!"
He sighed. "Close your eyes and Imagine your brain with all your thoughts running through it." I did what he said. "K, now imagine putting a cover over it." I did as he said And looked at him. "Your doing it. Very good too, especially since your a beginner."
I tried to read his mind and I could do it clearly. But his mind was trying to find a way into mine. He was getting quite frustrated with it. I grinned and laughed. His eyes snapped up. "You can read my mind? What the hell how?" I just shrugged. "Its impossible..." He stared at me pure confusion and fear crossed his face. I smiled. "Your special Katie." I looked him, watching him get closer to me. "And your all mine." I backed up and let me shield down. He saw the fear in my eyes and backed up. I lied "I'm really tired I'm going to bed." He looked at me, he knew I lied. "Katie you only sleep during the day. You can't sleep at night." I got mad. He backed up. "If you don't want to finish training we can stop and finish later." I just backed up more. He watched me. The realization struck across his face and the pain seeped in his eyes. Again. He backed up. It hurt me a little to see him like that.
Wow... Fine I'll just leave.
He turned and left me standing in the middle of the room. Not realizing it I ran after him. I caught up to him "Jaxon stop!" He turned hurt and anger in his eyes. "I'm sorry ok?"
"I'm done trying, I love you but you will never open yourself up to me. I'm just done ok?" He opened his car door.
"Jaxon stop!"
"Just let me go Katie." I grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
"No." He looked at me, and just stared at me in the eyes.
"You can't even give me a reason to stay."
I grabbed him and kissed him long and hard. He kissed me back and pulled me close. I pulled out.
"I love you..." He looked at me.
"I love you too." I whispered.
