Bang! Bang! Bang! "The court is now in session." All I am right now is butterflies and nerves. I looked up at the judge his eyes watching me and Zack.
Today was the day they punish Zach for kidnap and faking his death. Jaxon said we would for sure win but I'm not positive. Its been almost a month Jacob has been gone. If Zack is proven guilty today we get to go to court for his custody next week. If he's innocent, which he better not be, then he stays in Zack's possession. That's why I'm nervous right now. The rest of my life and Jacobs depends on this next hour. So here I sit in the prosecution seat in hands with Jaxon waiting for our lawyer to speak. Danny, Maddy and Sophie are sitting behind me.
"The prosecution may start." The lawyer sitting on my left stood and straightened his jacket then walked to the front of the room. "My clients are accusing Mr. Zack Taylor of kidnappings, experimenting, homicide and faking his own death. We are asking for a life sentence to prison and custody remval of Jacob Dannet. Thank you." He straightened his jacket again and sat down.
"Understood, the defense may speak." The defense lawyer stood up and straightened his jacket then walked to the front of his jacket. Gosh is that all they learn in law school? "The defendant says the accusations of kidnappings, murder, faking his death and experimental are false accusations or were done under the knowledge of the law. He would like all charges dropped and still be in remain of custody or Mr. Jacob Taylor." Taylor?! His last name is Dannet how dare he!! Jaxon seeing my rage reached under the table and held my hand.
"The prosecution may start with the first testimonial." My lawyer nodded and stood. "I would like to call Katie Dannet to the stand." I stood shaking, I'm 18 my life is so crazy, why me? I sat down and they made me pledge the truth. I pledged and it began. "Before the alleged kidnappings of you and your friends, when was the last time you saw your uncle?" I looked at zack then to the jury and spoke.
"The night of him and my brothers funeral. My brother was in a casket and his supposed ashes were next to him." The lawyer nodded and spoke. "And what exactly was said about the death or your brother and uncle?" "It was a car crash, drunk driver. Hit them dead on up in the canyon by the canyon store. The car was in flames and my uncle was supposedly burned to death. They pulled his burning corpse from the car. My brother was flung out off the cliff. He was killed the moment he hit the ground. The driver and the car were never found. Police say he drove off."
"I see and are these the articles and pictures from the accident?" He placed a folder in front of me. I looked at them and nodded my head yes. "As you see ladies and gentlemen of the jury according to the morgue," slaps down a paper, "the police," slaps down some more papers, "and the citizens of this town Mr. Zack Taylor was dead. So why is he standing here before you? If he was dead he would not be here. Mr. Taylor faked his own death and hurt so many people around him. Who's to say he didn't cause the crash himself and murder the boy, his own flesh and blood. There was no drunk driver found. And where did the body come from that was supposedly Mr. Taylor? Did he murder someone else? Did he steal a dead body? These are question I urge you to think about. I call up my next testimonial, Mr. Zack taylor." I stood and passed a smug Zack on y way to the table. Once I sat I released a breath I had been holding in.
"Mr. Taylor? What is your story about in this car crash?" The jury seemed intrigued. My uncle began. "I am an officer for the state police. The day of the crash I had received an under cover job to visit Tuscan Arizona and look into drug trafficking. My head officer told me to fake my death. That night I was going to say goodbye to my family and crash on the road but
My nephew insisted on coming. I had no control it was decided before. There was nothing I could do. His death was a terrible accident in a government plan."The lawyer stopped and stared at him. "Do you have legal documentation of this?" THe judge asked. Oh no this better not be real. His lawyer approached and handed a document to the judge. He studied it. Then spoke. "We will authenticate this but as of now the charges of fake death and homicide will be dropped."
We are going to lose, I'm going to lose Jacob. This is not OK! "Recess in session." We all stood to leave and I stayed seated. Zack stood and came to the table. "You won't win. I did everything under the laws observation. Jacob is mine." He turned and left. I couldn't stay here. He's going to win. I ran out of the room in tears. I his in the bathroom the rest of the time. Even when they came searching. They'd have to go on without me...
Thirty minutes later
Where are you? Ugh he's mind messaging me again.
Hiding, leave me alone. Just leave me alone. The bathroom door bust open and in he walks with a pissed face. "Why the hell are you not in there we need you!" The tears are back. "I can't, he's going to win! Why try?"
"He won't win we won't let him. But as soon as court is over we can finish our homework. So we can graduate so we kinda need you on there. Please come back." I smiled. graduation. I'm going to graduate. "You know how to pick me up don't you." I said smiling. He helped me to feet and we walked in to the court room.
