Morning slowly came along, and about 6 am I left the bed. Locking all the doors and reblocking the window. I made sure nobody could get in. Then I ran to the grocery store down the street. As I walked up to the door I realized I was plastered on wanted papers. All with my face on them.
Wanted: Katie Dannet! $1000 reward. Do not approach her! She is a serial killer! Any information contact the local police.
Just as I finished reading, I saw the register picking up a phone eyes wide in shock. I heard three pound keys dial. Her head was scrambling.
"Pick up, pick up. Oh god I'm going to die pick up." She looked like she was about to cry. I walked in the store and she burst into tears.
"Hey calm down, those aren't true I was framed... I'm just going to buy supplies and leave. I won't hurt you I promise." I looked her straight in the eyes my pupils dialated and she hung up on the phone. She nodded at me and stayed completely calm. I was shocked, how the hell did that work? I searched her brain and she honestly believed it. Without questioning her I walked over and grabbed some essentials, bacon, eggs, bread, chips, water bottles, peanut butter, jam... Ect. Then walked up to the counter, the girl looked at me again. "How exactly were you framed?" I looked up at her in surprise.
"The cops think I somehow killed my family, two police and a boy from my school. All in the span of 6 hours with lots of people watching me. Its not possible." I looked at the total. $100. well I'm not sure how much money is on this card but I swiped anyway. As I was leaving I heard sirens in the distance heading to this store fast.
"You better run if you don't want to get caught. Good luck." That same blank assured expression appeared on her face. I don't know what just happened between her and I, but I wasn't going to stick around to see. I did as she said, I ran. I ran and didn't stop till I got to the motel.
I went to the same window I had kicked in the night before and climbed through. Carefully resetting the plywood I had been using to hide it. Then ran up to the suite. As I got up to the level I was about to call to Jacob and stopped. The door to the room was opened. I was positive I had locked it, and now it was sitting there, wide open. I went completely silent. I heard the beat of a heart and breathing. Quietly I breathed a sigh of relief. He was alive. But as I stayed quiet I heard something else. Someone was walking around in the room. Footprints too heavy to be Jacobs. I set the groceries down and prepared myself. Whoever it was, was definitely a vampire, by the lack of breathing and heartbeat. And So help me if they touched my brother I would beat them. I was about to continue my rant when I remembered that vampires could hear thoughts. I shut up my mind and waited. Surprising myself when I went in to surprise the other vampire. As I waited I still listened making sure my brother was ok. I finally decided to go in and as I grabbed the handle to the door I heard my brothers voice.
"You said she'd be back by now, you said with breakfast for us. You said. Where's my sister? You said she wouldn't leave us for long." I got scared and sat outside the door.
"She is just outside the door listining to us. She has your food, she's fine." I knew that voice, but before it could register Jacob responded.
"She's outside? Yay! I'm hungry!" Then it registered who it was, I sorta sighed a sigh of relief. But not enough to be completely relieved. I heard scrambling of little feet racing towards the door, I grabbed the groceries and turned around to see Jacob running towards me in his pj's.
"Katie! You're back! You're back! Guess what? I woke up and your boyfriend said I could watch cartoons before breakfast! Mom never let me do that. And then, he said you were bringing me bacon! I love bacon! Please tell me you brought bacon please?" I laughed and heard someone else laughing with me. I looked into the face of the vampire who was watching my brother. And Jaxon looked right back at me.
"Good morning beautiful." He walked over and kissed me on the cheek. Then took the bags from my hands and walked into the room. My brother following him shouting, "I want to carry the bacon! Give it too me!" Then a squel and running of little feet to the kitchen. I followed them into the room letting the previous compliment and kiss roll off my back. Seeing they weren't in the living room I went to the kitchen to see Jacob patiently sitting at the table while Jaxon cooked breakfast. He was like a perfect father cooking breakfast in the morning like mine did. He's just so cu-- no Katie, he let your family die. He's a monster, he's letting you take the blame for everything. He let you die, and is pretending it never happened. I looked at him in anger and watched as the spatula snapped. Jacob jumped then let out a small scream.
"I came to apologize! I came to make it better! I watched your brother while you were gone! I'm cooking breakfast! Can you stop thinking of me so evilly?! This is not 100% my fault! You just like me and use me to protect yourself!" He slammed the broken spatula on the ground. Turning to me with hurt and anger in his eyes. I stood in shock, of course he read my mind. I grabbed the finished pancakes and set them in front of my brother with a smack and looked Jaxon in the eyes.
"Bedroom... Now!" I stormed out of the kitchen listining to my brothers increased heart and breathing rate. I'd apologize to him later. I slammed the bedroom door behind Jaxon and turned to him in anger.
"What the hell, Jaxon? Why can't you leave me alone?"
"Katie, calm down, I just want to keep you and your brother safe. I know how much you care about him. I'm sorry I blew up, its just... It hurts that you hate me when I'm trying, and I am! I really am."
"Stop reading my mind, it won't hurt you. And I don't want you to try, I want you out! Now!"
He slowly walked towards me speaking, "I don't mean to read Your mind, I'm sorry I just want to keep you safe."
"Why do you care?" I stanced myself
"I... I..." He looked scared
"I? I what?"
He looked me in the eyes.
"I love you" he immediately pulled his hands up to protect himself, "Please don't hurt me."
I stared at him. Rage still projecting through my face and body stance. He slowly peeled his hands back. I refused to think. I wanted to shut all emotion off, not care about liking him, not believe he was telling the truth. Just as I was about to speak I heard a second pair of heartbeats down stairs. Jaxons eyes lit up. He thought to me.
Let me prove it, let me prove I love you. Grab your brother, hide in the closet. Don't say anything.
I nodded and ran into the other room. I grabbed my brother and hid in the closet. Jaxon sat at the table and started eating the pancakes.
"Hey! Those are mine! Katie th-." I cut him off and whispered.
"Jacob I will make you whatever you want. Just be quiet." I felt him sit back and pout. But he did as I said and didn't say a word. The police walked in a few minutes later.
"Oh um, excuse me sir?"
Jaxon turned but his face had changed. It looked exactly like the hotel owners.
"What can I help you with?"
The police looked around then pulled a picture out of his bag. "Have you seen this girl? She's a murderer and was last seen around this area." Jaxon squinted at the picture.
"Murderer you say? No I have not. But I'll be sure to lock my doors and let you know if I see anything."
"There is a bounty over her head, good money too. I must say though I'm not supposed to see you here. Don't you and your wife leave to Hawaii this time of year?"
"Yes my wife already left. Just fixing up some things. I will be going to meet her later this week." The entire time lying through his teeth making it very believable. The police officer tipped his cap and left. I heard the car door open and drive off. Jaxon turned to me and pulled jacob up into his lap letting him finish his pancakes.
"So.. You're wanted? Well this just got more complicated."
