"Yes, doctor?" I asked anxiously.

"The wound is deeper than we thought. We will have to do an operation." The doctor informed me.

I sighed, not liking where this conversation was going.

"Okay doctor, if doing the operation will make him better then you can do it, I guess." I said.

"Miss. Brooks, I think you are very much aware that to do an operation for a serious injury we will need the consent from a parent or guardian. So, I suggest you get his parent or guardian here." The doctor said.

How was I going to let the doctor know that Henderson got this stab injury thanks to his guardian?

"Um, doctor, his guardian is..." I trailed off, not knowing what to say.

"His guardian is?" The doctor looked at me, urging me to continue.

"Err-" Before I could continue, I was cut off by Matt's voice.

"Lisa, there you are! How's Adam?"

I looked at the doctor, whose curious expression was still on her face.

"Sorry Doctor, didn't see you there. Could you please tell us how Adam is? Is he ok?" Joe asked the doctor.

"I was just telling Miss. Brooks here that Mr. Henderson would have to have an operation as the wound is quite deep and the internal organs may be slightly damaged. For this operation, we would need the consent of either a guardian or parent of Mr. Henderson. Hopefully, you will able to get the necessary person to give the consent. Please be quick as every second you are wasting can cost Mr. Henderson his life." The doctor said so and left us with a tense atmosphere.

Matt and Joe looked at me curiously. "Why didn't you contact Adam's guardian?"

When I looked up at them, I understood that they knew Adam's secret. "Why didn't you do so?"

"Um, what's up with answering with a question?" Joe asked me, cautiously.

"Don't beat around the bush. I know Adam's secret." I told plainly. I was intently looking at Joe's and Matt's faces. For a split of a second, I swear I saw their facial expressions morphing to one of shock and horror but it was soon covered up by a neutral expression.

"What are you saying so, Lisa?" Matt asked with a hint of nervousness.

"Oh don't pretend you don't know, Adam lives in that suburban house with his abusive aunt." I said without any emotion whatsoever.

"What?!" Matt sounded surprised.

"How did you know?" Joe whispered hoarsely.

"I saw it one day whilst  coming from the bakery where I work after-school. Now, let's stop discussing this and wonder how to get the consent. I don't want the aunt to come because it's because of he, he got into this." I said.

"It's surprising to hear all this but let's discuss the details later. How are we going to get his aunt's consent? She might be a danger to him." Joe said, concernedly.

"I have an idea. My parents could sign for him." Matt said excitedly.

Joe and I looked at him as if he had lost his mind. "Matt, this is a hospital! How are you going to get your parents to be his guardians?"  I asked him.

"That's because his aunt and my mum are kind of close to each other. Adam sometimes stays with us too. He's like my brother and even in school, they recognize my parents and his aunt as his guardians." Matt explained.

"Then call them right now!" Joe hissed.

Matt took his phone and dialled the number. He went off to a far corner to talk to his parents. Joe looked at me.
