Okay, so before I start I want to say this to all my readers. I'M SOOOOOO SOOOOO SOOOOO SOOOO SORRY for not updating for a long time. I was really busy and had no time to update. I don't like updating using mobile because it's too hard to type long chapters in the mobile. Please do bear with my irregular updates because I have soooo much school work to do (Blame my teachers!) So...without further ado, let me present Chapter 17 of NYE!
I hummed to myself as I passed the corridor that would lead me to Adam's room. The corridors were familiar to me just as the corridors in school. I had been visiting almost every day since he was transferred to this hospital, 2 weeks ago. Adam was still in a coma, his situation has neither improved nor declined. Adam's name was splashed in the papers for a week after the championship. There were some ridiculous claims as to the reason for his coma. None of us commented on what had happened because other than the doctors, Joe, Matt, their parents and I (maybe Adam's aunt as well) nobody knew what exactly caused him to have fatal internal injuries.
I opened the door and almost dropped the box of red velvet cupcakes I had brought with me. Adam was sitting upright reading a magazine. As I opened the door, he turned and beckoned me inside. I just stood there, with my mouth gaping open.
"Hello Lisa, nice to see you. Come inside." Adam greeted.
"Adam Henderson, you? What? How? When?" I couldn't make a full sentence as I was still in shock.
Adam gave a slight chuckle. "Come inside, I assure you I won't bite."
"But..but.." I was lost for words.
"I could come and drag you inside but then I have to face the wrath of the doctors. If you are willing to face it, I'll walk over and drag you." Adam said, teasingly.
I closed the door behind me and walked over to Adam's bed and stood next to it. I looked at him questioningly.
"You don't want to ask how am I doing or anything like that? You just want to know when I woke up?" Adam asked.
I nodded my head.
"What a caring friend!" He exclaimed in mock- hurt. "I'm surprised you don't know that I had woken up already. I was already up when Matt and Joe came to visit me before school."
"Wait, until I see them again. Those little bastards." I cursed under my breath. "They didn't tell me!" I added, annoyed.
"Figured that out." Adam smiled. "Lisa, have you no thought about sitting down? Do you respect me so much, that you are standing and talking to me?" Sarcasm filled his words.
I huffed "Nah, I just want to get tall. I heard standing makes you tall. I am going to grow taller than you!" However, I sat on the chair.
Adam laughed "Lisa, you know what you said now was just plain LAME? No one believes in that theory anymore. My dear muchkin, you won't be able to catch up to my height. So better get rid of those dreams, love."
I playfully punched his arm "You big giant meanie. You 6'2 monster! I'll become taller than you one day!"
Adam grinned "Little 5'7 munchkin, dream on!"
I pouted, annoyed.
"Anyway Lisa, I want to thank you for everything you've done." Adam said, sounding serious.
I looked up at him, confused.
"Matt and Joe told me how you convinced Aunt to give the consent for the surgery, thereby giving me another chance to live. I can't express how thankful I am. They also told me that you've come to visit me almost every single day. Thanks for taking time out to care." Adam gave a grateful smile.
