7. Once is Enough

After 5 successful tutoring sessions where Henderson became more and more bearable, today I was really looking forward to the 6th one. It was Monday, which meant I had afterschool tutoring sessions. Henderson wasn't a bad teacher, I actually managed to get through harder sums in the Formulae and understand friction in physics.We were starting Geometry today.

"Looks like someone is extra perky today." commented Sally, smirking.

"Oh do shut up. I'm always perky." I elbowed her.

"Seriously Lisa, I can't believe that a few days back you were actually fidgeting on meeting Adam Henderson but now, you are practically glowing when you realize you have tutoring sessions with him." Kylie smiled.

"I do not glow." I denied hotly.

"Oh you totally do love. See, Henderson is coming." Sally giggled as I looked up to Henderson come with his friends, Joe Carter and Matt Harvard.

"Oh look, Matt is there too." I whispered to Sally, causing her to blush and Kylie to snicker.

"Err, Brooks, a moment with you please?" Henderson called out to me.

I looked at my friends and they had identical smirks on their faces. I mentally shook my head at their fantasies and nodded at Henderson "Sure, why not?"

I followed Henderson to a corner and he turned to face me "Um Brooks, I am actually sorry for this short notice but I really can't help it. I hope you wouldn't mind it much."

I looked at him, confused "I don't get you. Care to explain what's going on?"

"It's just err, we won't be able to have afterschool tutoring today because I have basketball practices today." Henderson said really fast.

"Oh, I thought your practices were on Wednesdays and Fridays?" I asked him.

"Yes it is but a match which was supposed to be in 2 weeks was rescheduled for this Saturday, our coach just got the news and told me about 10 minutes back that today we have practices. I think that this week we can only do the tutoring on Wednesday during study period. Or we can compare timetables to see if there's any free period where both of us are free, then I can tutor you during that period too." Henderson looked so cute when he is trying to come up with solutions.

"Don't worry about that Henderson, Wednesday is fine. I can manage for a week without you, Henderson. After all I managed so far, nah. Good luck with your matches." I smiled at him.

Henderson let out a relieved breath "Really sorry about the short notice, Brooks. The free period offer does still stand, and if you need any help don't hesitate to text me. I am really really sorry about this Brooks, don't get too mad at me."

I rolled my eyes at his repeated apologies "Seriously Henderson, it's alright and yeah, I know what to do if I'm stuck. Don't worry about the tutoring, just practise well and concentrate on the match, Captain."

"Oh thank you so much, Brooks. Um, do you have any transport problems in getting back home? I can drop you home and return back to school, coach will allow me. After all it is my fault that you came prepared to stay afterschool today." Henderson asked, concernedly.

I mentally was shocked at how concerned Henderson was but I managed to regain my senses "Don't worry Henderson. I drive on my own to and fro. I can obviously drive back at the usual time."

"Are you sure? Is it alright with you?" Henderson asked, looking like an overbearing grandmother.

"Oh dear. Actually who are you and what have you done with Adam Henderson? Quit being so concerned, it freaks me out and I've told you so many times that it is alright!" I told him, amused.
