I sighed as I leaned against my locker, exhausted and sleepy. When I got home yesterday, it was 11.30 p.m. and I couldn't go to sleep because I was replaying the incident at the warehouse over and over again in my head. Whenever I think about it, I always hear Henderson screaming in pain and the blood that surrounded him. I shuddered.
"Hey." whispered a soft voice and I almost jumped out of my skin.
"Why are you so jumpy today?" Kylie asked me, with concern in her eyes.
"No, I am not jumpy." I gave a nervous laugh.
"Then why were you really cautious today? From morning, I observed that you were looking around as if you were looking for someone. You also seemed very distant and disturbed in class today. I've caught you shuddering and shaking your head as if to clear away some nightmare, many times today. I can also see that you are quite exhausted and sleepy. This is so not you Lisa." Kylie said, looking directly at my eyes intently that I felt she could see my whole soul.
"I see that you are very observant Ky. You should join the police or become a detective or something." I gave a nervous laugh.
Kylie didn't smile or change her stance. Her light brown eyes bore into my dark brown ones. It was clear that she was waiting for an answer.
"Kylie, I assure you that nothing is wrong with me. I just had a bad day yesterday." I tried to appease her.
"I know that there's a lot more behind it. Please Lisa, just tell me what's the matter. I swear I won't tell anyone, not even to Sally." Kylie pleaded.
I took a deep breathe. "I would have Ky, but it's not my secret to share. Sorry Ky."
"Alright then, feel free to talk to me anytime. Let's go to gym now for PE." Kylie said, pulling me away from the locker.
I gave her a small smile and walked towards the changing rooms. Changing room was like a gossip heaven. The girls were all gossiping about something or other all the time.
"Hey Brooks!" a brunette called out to me.
"Yes?" I turned around.
"Do you have any idea why Henderson isn't here today?" She asked me, whilst the girls around suddenly stopped whatever they were ding or saying and hung onto our every word.
"No, why?" I lied effortlessly.
"Just wondering, by the way as his girlfriend you should know where he is." The brunette said nonchalantly.
"What?!" I sputtered.
The brunette was confused "Aren't you his girlfriend?"
I shook my head and before she could reply, our PE teacher hollered "Girls! Come out!"We hurriedly walked towards the gym and the girls squealed suddenly. My jaw hung wide open and I was confused. Right next to our PE teacher was the basketball coach and next to him was Adam Freaking Henderson! What, how did Adam come to school today?
My eyes roamed around until it settled on Joe and Matt, both of them looked worried and exhausted. I sent a questioning glance at them but they just sighed.
"Okay, so everyone I have something special to tell you all." Our PE teacher began and everybody perked up.
"Coach here wants us to do something different, which means some of you here wouldn't have to do anything related to PE today."
This definitely caught my attention, don't get me wrong, I do like PE but I was just too exhausted today to be climbing robes, doing laps or play Dodgeball or anything related to sports.
