Kylie and Sally were annoyed at me. They were both annoyed because today was one day I had 3 of my morning classes with them. It wasn't that they didn't like me but I was very fidgety today.
"Lisa Madeline Brooks, for the 110th time- stop fidgeting!" Kylie said, exasperatedly.
"Sorry." I said softly.
After about 5 minutes, Sally sighed "Lisa, seriously you are annoying us. Henderson isn't going to eat you so calm down, woman."
I didn't say anything and turned my attention back to the substitute Literature teacher. I tried very hard to pay attention to the teacher and not think about what would happen today during study period but though I did pay attention to the teacher I was dreading about lunch and study period. Lunch was after Lit. and my study period was after lunch. Today was my first day with Henderson as a tutor and I couldn't help but feel a bit terrified. I just knew it yesterday that I was having Adam Henderson as my Math and Physics tutor. Yesterday was a bad day because Mum and Dad had also grounded me for a week for disrespecting Aunt Marie because I quote 'shoved Aunt Marie, did not greet her or recognize her presence, frowned at her when she had concernedly asked about what was wrong with me and swore under my breath in front of her'. I couldn't believe Aunt Marie had lied like that! Everything except that not greeting her or recognizing her presence were all lies! Mum and Dad had not even let me say a word at dinner and went on and on about how disappointed they were in me and how Aunt Marie's children were way better. I was glad that Aunt Marie and her brood would be leaving home today. Jenna was the only one who believed in me but she never stood up for me in front of Mum and Dad. Jenna was your typical girl-next-door who hardly disrespected elders (other than lying to them about staying in Luke's home).
Bringing me out of my thoughts was the school bell ringing. All around me, the students gladly put away their books excited about going for lunch and whilst I would have been like them any other day, today I dreaded going to lunch. I just wish the whole day was over and done with. The whole class was empty when I was slowly putting the books in my bag. Sally and Kylie groaned at me.
"Doing things in slow-motion won't help, buddy." Sally quipped in.
"You are just trying to drag the inevitable. Stop moping and fidgeting. Everything will be alright but I am really hungry, Lis. C'mon quickly or I'll leave you here all alone and drag Sally to lunch." Kylie threatened.
"Okay okay chill guys. I am coming, I am coming." I tried to laugh but only a small choked sound was able to escape my throat.
"Look who's telling." Kylie mumbled under her breath.
As the three of us entered the cafeteria, it was already full and only a few were in the lunch line. I grabbed a tray and so did Kylie and Sally. I had a 2 slices of pizza, half a submarine, a glass of Pepsi and a slice of chocolate fudge cake as dessert. I am a growing girl, so I need to eat and I never really did care about my figure after all I was thin though not very thin.
As the three of us sat on our usual table, I tried my very best to not look over at the table where Henderson was sitting. Sally and Kylie understood my dilemma and tried their best to keep my attention away from him by engaging me in humorous stories and gossip. They did succeed.
Lunch was going perfectly and smoothly. We were teasing Sally on the crush she had on Joe Carter, one of the star players of the school's basketball team and also one of Adam's best friends.
"I've heard that someone liked the colour yellow, is that why your purse and backpack are yellow Miss. Winters?" Kylie questioned, teasingly.
"I always wondered why you had a yellow purse and backpack because you used to hate the colour yellow." I said in a fake dramatic tone of curiosity.
"Shut up girls, dislikes and likes change over the course of time. I realize yellow was a nice, bright colour and the purse and backpack looked nice so I bought it." Sally said defensively.
"Is that so, young lady? Does that mean your likes of a certain someone has also changed?" Kylie asked, her eyes sparkling mischievously.
"Why is that? Is a Miss. Kylie Felton jealous or interested in that certain someone?" Sally challenged.
"I smell jealousy here. It's so strong that I think I might puke." I said holding by nose.
"I hope you finish puking before you meet me because I don't want you to puke on me." said a voice, I've come to dread.
"What will happen if I do?" I asked fiercely.
"I'd probably make you eat it. It's yours after all." Henderson said breezily.
"If you have nothing essential to say now, you can just go back to your table because you are ruining our fun." I told him.
"Well I just-" he was cut off by the school bell ringing.
Henderson gave a smirk "I hate to ruin your 'fun' but I believe it's time for me to tutor you. Early we start, the quicker this tutoring thing will end. So, come with me."
"Why should I come with you? I can perfectly walk to study hall by myself." I retorted.
Henderson gave a sigh and ran his fingers through his brownish blonde hair. "Just shut up, say good bye to your friends and come with me, you annoying brat. No, don't dare talk back to me. Just listen and do what you are told."
Henderson pressed his palm against my mouth as I opened it to give another sarcastic response. His eyes had a warning glare in them which basically said "Do or say anything stupid, I'll kill you and bury you six feet deep right now."
I sighed and waved at my friends who shook their head amusedly at me and walked behind Henderson, feeling everyone's eyes on us as we left the cafeteria.
