 Chapter 4

 A candelit Dinner.

Mariam stepped out of the sleek BMW - instantly snapped out of her daydream. She glanced around at her surroundings and felt awkward as she was clearly out of her depth as there were wealthy couples. She looked towards the grand entrance and saw a sign that read 'The Plaza Hotel & Restaurant'. Huge crowds of well dressed socialites stood around waiting for a table that had clearly been reserved months in advance. Daniel took my hand and led me towards the double doors where we were met with a man who had a clipboard and wore an overwhelmed expression. "Yes, Simon, I am aware there are crowds of people outside but I can barely control them by myself can I?" he said tutting disapprovingly clearly annoyed as he stood behind a marble desk. Daniel smiled politely and said "Reservations under James, Sir." confidently.

"Ah, Mr James." He replied quickly straightening his tie and wore a look of pure envy yet respect.

"Follow me." and so we did, all the way towards our table. We walked briskly through the bustling restaurant and passed couples who were having a quiet and relaxed dinner and I couldn't help but peering at those who were clearly trying to show us their blinding expensive frivolous engagement rings and expensive jewellery. There were chandeliers surrounded by small silver crystals hanging from the ceiling and several large bay windows that overlooked the sea in Chelsea. The sound of elegant classical musical playing in the background created a melodic and laid back atmosphere.

Danny began speaking enthusiastically about his love for books. "Okay, on the count of three, we shall both say our favourite author. Okay?" I smiled and laughed "Okay." I said agreeing. Three seconds later; "Nicholas Sparks." we both said and then looked at each other in amazement. I finally spoke and could only utter the words "No...way!" and he laughed "Well, I have to admit The Notebook, The Last Song and A Walk To Remember are all pretty awesome."

"I couldn't agree more." I chirped in "And, using Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling in The Notebook was such a great idea." he gave me a bashful grin in agreement "Ryan Gosling." I said again sighing dreamily.

He laughed "Surely, I'm better looking?" he said winking in a flirtatious manner. "Now, now, dont get all jealous Mr James" I said smiling. "By the way, you failed to mention you were wealthy." I said jokingly while taking a sip of my drink. A look I couldn't quite put my finger on flashed across his face that was awfully similar to pure annoyance then faded away, he then flashed me a fake smile. "Does it matter?" he said awkwardly. "Um, Of course not." I said quickly. I was completely perplexed by his sudden change in behaviour then right on cue, the waiter served dessert - Chocolate cheesecake.

The dessert looked absolutely ravishing and mouth-watering and I decided to pick up my spoon and just as I was about to dig in, Danny laughed. "What?" I asked bewildered. He pointed towards another spoon "I'm afraid that's the dessert spoon, darling." I hid my face with my hands and turned red with embarrassment. "I don't have the best etiquette skills as you can see." God, he must think I am a total idiot!

He smiled "Trust me, It's refreshing." And just like that, I felt reassured because it sounded so genuine.

A flawless blonde had been eyeing me up all night from another table who had a remarkable resemblance to Blake Lively. I giggled and pointed in the direction of the blonde and said "Wow, I think a blonde over there is a little jealous of our little rendezvous." he looked confused and turned around then sank in his chair sighing loudly. "Great, that's my ex-girlfriend Scarlett." he said awkwardly.
