His Royal Highness sat alone in his study, papers scattered in towering piles that seemed to never end on his table. He sat buried underneath it all, warm wax dripping off the seal as he signed the documents before him. Letters to the last few remaining cities, invitations to his tournament.
A cool breeze sent the documents flying and dimmed the light that glowed from candles spread throughout the room. With a small cry, King Artheur reached out to grab the sailing papers, the steaming wax falling onto his exposed arm and stinging his flesh. Teeth clenched, he let out a low hiss as the wax solidified, turning to the now open door, where his most trusted knight stood waiting.
Her silver hair was in a mess from the practice yard, in unadorned clothes with her sword at her hip. Bandages wrapped around her forearms, a scattering of dirt across the lady's face and hands, and a smooth smirk on her face. "You're a mess, your Majesty."
"Speak for yourself," he said with a small smile. The king stood from his chair to collect the remaining papers from the floor by her feet. "What brings you here?"
"There are knight's in the courtyard, your highness. Tournament knights, Your Grace. Only a handful. Four, to be exact."
The smile that grew on King Artheur's face could have bested even the brightest of dragon fire. "Bring them in at once!"
