Zach's P.O.V:
I wait in the cold. I'm in the alley I was told we would meet in. They have Julie. I clutch the envelope in my pocket holding the $10,000 they demanded for her. Before I left the house I told my mom about it. I wouldn't have but I had to since I couldn't just take out $10,000 from my bank account. She called the police and they wired me. The wire is unnoticeable but I'm scared they will find it and that they will hurt Julie. I grit my teeth and glare at my shoes. She's probably so scared right now. All I can think about is how I want to hide her away, somewhere no one would find her, somewhere no one could hurt her, somewhere I could shield her from the world's cruelty. I let out a breath I was holding when I hear the shuffling of feet. I grasp the envelope in my hand and almost run to Julie when I see her with a bag over her head, being half-dragged in front of me. They have lucky in a cage and they toss it to me. I hear him whimper in pain as the cage bangs onto the ground. I walk slowly to the cage and open it. Lucky limps out and I carry him. "It's ok boy." I say softly petting him. "I'll get you help but first I have to get Julie." I whisper and set him down. I glare at the man and another guy comes up from behind him dragging a body. I freeze. Jack? He walks to me and sets him on the ground."We might have drugged him a little too heavily....might want to get him some medical help. Or not. Don't care." He shrugs and walks away. Jack looks like shit. I have to get him to the hospital. Wait, did they drug Julie?! I clench my fists and look at Julie. "Toss the money."
"Give me Julie."
"Leave the money in front of you. Step back and I'll let go of Julie."
"Fine." I set the envelope down and stick my hands in my pocket. I hope they don't notice the little white sticker that is on the envelope. It's basically invisible since the envelope is white too. It's a tracker. the guy takes off the bag that was on Julie's head and she frantically looks around. She looks at me, her eyes full of tears, anger and fear. She gives me a small smile and I hold out my hands as they let her go. She runs to my and buries her head into my chest. I run a hand through her hair and kiss her head. The first guy picks up the envelope and takes out the money. He counts the money and when he's sure it's all there they run off. "They're on the move." I say because I know the police can hear me through the wire. Julie sobs quietly and I hold her shoulders. She looks up at me. "We have to check on Jack and lucky." I say softly and she nods. I walk over to Jack. He's unconscious. I pick him up and gently throw him over my shoulder. Julie picks up lucky and we walk to the street where an ambulance is waiting. They shut off their lights and sounds so the guys wouldn't hear them. They instantly turn them back on when they see us and they rush Jack into the back on a stretcher. They seat Julie in the back too to check her vitals. A guy takes lucky from Julie and tends to his needs. "Jack is in critical condition. Those guys definitely put a large dose into his blood system and he's not looking too good. The girl will be fine. She have to stay with someone though until we catch the guys. The dog has a broken arm but it will heal, a vet will see him right away when we get to the hospital. You can ride in the back with Julie." An officer tells me and I nod. I get into the back and hold Julie's hand as we drive off to the hospital. When we get there they rush Jack into an emergency room and they put Julie in a recovery room. They switch off lucky to a vet and take me to a waiting room. I call Julie's mom and tell her she doesn't have to worry. Unfortunately she can't catch a plane here because she has to do surgery on a patient in an hour. Oh yeah, Julie's mom is a doctor. I wait patiently till a nurse comes in and says that Julie is in Jack's room and that I could go in. She smiles at me when I walk in. They put both beds in the same room so I sit between them and hold Julie's hand. I look at Jack, he is pale and unconscious. I look back at Julie.
"You look sleepy sunshine. You should get some rest." I say kindly. She nods and I kiss her forehead as she drifts to sleep. I'm about to let go of her hand when she tightens her grip.
"Stay with me." She says wearily.
"Always." I murmur. She nods slowly and falls asleep. I smile and lean my head on the side of her bed. A vet comes in with lucky in her arms.
"He's going to be ok. He just has a broken arm but it will heal In about 7 weeks." She smiles and hands lucky to me. I nod and inspect the cast on his arm. He whimpers and I hug him.
"Thank you for trying to protect Julie, your a good boy." I say softly and he snuggles up to me. I give him a treat from the bag in my pocket and he eats it happily. I smile and set him down on a doggie bed I got for him. I walk out of the room to get a snack from the vending machine. I'm whistling a tune when I hear some loud beeps. I look around and shrug. Then the beep stops and it's just a long lasting flat beat. I run back to the room.
