JJ's Pov
It had been almost an hour since Derek had left us as the hospital, and we were sat beside Emily's bed. We kept talking to her, hoping that she could hear us and that she knew just how much we wanted her to wake up.
"Miss Stone," The atmosphere in that small hospital room changed almost immediately as soon as the nurse entered. "The results of your blood test are back. Could you step outside a moment please?" I looked to Lauren, who stood and began to follow the nurse into the corridor. But she stopped as she reached the door and turned back to me.
"JJ, will you come with me?" She looked scared; it was obvious, and I knew why. Everything depended on these results.
"Of course." I made my way over to her and she took my hand as the nurse led us into the corridor.
"Okay, so as you know, we were testing to seeing if your blood type is a match to Emily's. We also ran a full blood panel to see if your blood was suitable to be donated." I really wanted her to just get to the point, and Lauren did too. I could tell how nervous she was; she was shaking like a leaf.
"So, what's the verdict?" I asked inpatiently. The suspense was only making our nerves worse. Why did the nurse feel the need to prolong the wait? It was cruel.
Lauren's Pov
All I could think was that this nurse was trying to kill me. I wished she would just hurry up and tell us already. "Your blood type is indeed a match to Emily's." Relief washed over me as the news sank in. "But," But what? Why did that 'but' not sound so good?
"What is it?" JJ practically screamed. She asked so that I didn't have to. I was grateful to her for that.
"But I'm afraid that you're not able to donate." What was she talking about? I was a match; I had the blood condition. What possible reason could prevent me from donating my blood to Emily?
"Why not?" I needed to know. I glanced at JJ who was just as worried as I was.
"Because," She hesitated. "Because you're pregnant!"
