Chapter 13

Lauren's pov

I knew the others would be talking about us, but I didn't care. Emily and I needed to get this sorted out and now that I had calmed down after the initial shock, I could hear her out and try not to lose it. "Everyone's gone. So, are you ready to listen?" I took a seat and gestured for Emily to start her explanation.

She paced up and down for a few moments and I began to wonder if she really did want to sort things out, or if this was all just a big joke to her. "Well...?" I said as Emily took a seat opposite me.

"First of all,I want you to know that I love you and everything I have done has been to protect you." I gave a heavy sigh and she knew that I didn't trust what she had said. "I know you don't believe me, but it's true. Yeah, I left you and your dad to go undercover and at the time you both said that you understood why I had to go." I gritted my teeth and counted to ten in my head. I could feel myself starting to get angry.

"But after it was over, you didn't..." I tried to speak, but she cut me off.

"After the assignment was over, I wanted to come back, but I couldn't risk putting you in danger. If Ian Doyle had discovered that I was still alive and he found out about you, then nowhere would have been safe. Doyle wouldn't have stopped hunting us down until he found and killed us. All of us." I had to admit that it did kind of make sense.

Emily's pov

It looked like Lauren was listening; I mean, really listening. She seemed to be starting to understand the decisions I made and just how hard they were for me to make. "I couldn't have any contact with you in case he sent someone to hurt you. You mean too much to me for me to put you at risk like that. I would never have been able to forgive myself if something would've happened to you because of me." She hadn't told me to shut up or stormed out; so that was a good sign, right?

"Okay, lets say I believe you. What happens now?" So, she had been listening.

"When I realised who you were yesterday I was shocked, and I was scared. I was scared that you'd reject me and I would lose you forever. I get that you're angry, and you have every right to be. But know that I never stopped thinking about you; I wondered where you were and what you'd be doing every single day." I reached for the locket around my neck and opened it so that Lauren could see the photographs it held.

"But thats...?" She was speechless after seeing what they were. There was a photo of her father and I opposite one of her.

"Now, do you see?" I felt like we had just had a huge breakthrough.

Derek's pov

I didn't know whether or not I should be worried; Emily and Lauren seemed to be getting along better since the break. It's not like they had suddenly become best friends or anything, but the majority of the tension that had been there before, was practically gone.

My cell phone buzzed in my pocket; looking at the caller ID and saw that it was Garcia. "Baby Girl, what you got?" I really needed some good news right about now.

"Well, my very own Mr Dreamy. I can tell you that all three of your victims stayed at the same hotel within the last three months." Garcia gave me the name of the hotel and once I had told the others, Hotch sent Emily, JJ and Lauren to the hotel while Rossi and I went to Brooke Ashton's house.
