Derek's Pov
Reid and I were sitting with what could only be described as a seriously high junkie from the apartment below the Unsub's. He wasn't making much sense and kept rambling on about blue squirrels and flying giraffes. "Excuse me, Mr. Carter. Do you even know why we're here?" Vincent Carter was too high to even care that his neighbour was a murderer.
"The dancing fairies?" There was no point in continuing this conversation. He was useless and clearly hallucinating.
"So, you don't know anything about your neighbour, Christopher Rimmer?" I didn't get why Reid kept hoping that this guy would have any relevant information for us.
"You mean the guy upstairs? I don't really know him or anything about him, but I did hear some funny noises coming from his apartment a few times." Was this guy serious? We'd been sat here for nearly a half hour and not once did he think to mention that.
"What kind of noises?" I wondered if as well as hearing the noises, he'd ever seen anything that he thought could be odd.
"Banging noises, shouting. I didn't know if it was real. You see... I hear things; bad things. Voices." No shit! I needed more information than that.
"Did you ever see anything strange, or anyone coming and going at weird times of the day or night?" It was a pretty simple question that even a village idiot cold answer, but Vincent didn't seem to understand it. He was irritating me so much; how the hell could he not understand something so simple? "Did you ever see the man from upstairs acting strangely?" I couldn't make it any easier for him.
"Not really, but I thought I saw him covered in blood once." Now he tells us.
Hotch's Pov
With Morgan and Reid interviewing Christopher Rimmer's neighbours, Rossi and I were left to sift through the remaining paperwork from London, DC and Ohio that Reid hadn't already read. "Where's that witness statement that Reid had?" Rossi had been turning over piles and piles of papers looking for something and he wouldn't tell me what, until now.
"It's here." I passed Dave the file. If he'd have told me what he was looking for when I first asked, then we could have moved a lot faster.
"I got another witness statement here that says the same thing; that the Unsub called out the name 'Lauren' during the attack." What the hell was going on? And what was Lauren hiding? We needed to know; and we needed to know now.
"Which victim?" I was curious as to just how these victims were connected to Lauren, and why the Unsub was targeting them.
"Ohio. She was the only victim there. Her name is Megan Taylor." By the look on Dave's face, he was thinking the same thing I was; did Lauren know her? I grabbed my cell and dialed Lauren's number.
"Stone." She answered after only two rings.
"It's Hotch. I'm going to ask you a question and I'd prefer it if you answered truthfully." She hesitated before answering.
"Okay. I'll tell you anything you need to know." I was sure that she didn't want to tell me, but she knew that she had to. It would come out sooner or later.
"Do you know anyone called Megan Taylor?" She didn't answer right away, and I didn't know why.
"I know her." That was all she said before the line went dead.
