Chapter 14

JJ's pov

My instincts were proved correct on the journey to the hotel. I figured that the two of them had made up or at least called a truce because of their 'shared past', and the fact that they were willingly engaged in conversation with each other just proved it. I listened in on their little chat to see if I could pick up on any hint or detail of their previous relationship. I heard nothing other than the mention of a cat named Whiskers, and as soon as the name had been spoken, Emiy retracted the statement.

"We're here." I pulled over and parked the car. Lauren and Emily got out and headed for the hotel reception; I followed.

"Can I help you?" A petite, blonde girl whose name badge told us her name was Melanie, asked.

"Agents Jareau, Prentiss and Stone." The three of us flashed our badges. "Can we ask you a few questions?" Melanie nodded and Emily showed her the pictures of Brooke, Taylor and Kelly.

"Do you recognise any of these women?" The receptionist picked them all up and took a closer look at them before answering.

"Sure. That's Taylor Kincaid. She came here for a weekend once every couple of months. And that's Kelly Watson; she visited her brother here most weekends. And Brooke Ashton; her and her sister spent two weeks here about a month ago." The mention of Brooke's sister seemed to have initiated a response from Lauren.

Brooke stayed here with Dana? That was news to me. “Dana? Dana Adams?” Obvious question, but I couldn’t help it, it just came out.

“Yes. I’m not exactly sure why they were staying here; I think it had something to do with Brooke’s husband.” Brooke was married? Why didn’t I know anything about this?

“So now that we know that all three of them definitely stayed here, we need to look into all members of staff and the guests who were here the same time as our victims.” JJ called Hotch, while Melanie, the receptionist, pulled the credit card statements.

“Who’s he?” I pointed to a name on the credit card statement for the last time that the first victim stayed at the hotel.

“That’s Kelly’s brother, Luke. He’s in room 314; staying here for the investigation I guess.” JJ finished her phone conversation with Hotch and headed back to us.

“We need to talk to Luke Henderson in room 314. He’s Kelly Watson’s brother.” JJ looked to Emily for permission and once Emily had nodded in response, we made our way to the elevator.

As I pressed the button for the third floor, I thought about what I had been through in the past and compared it to our current victims. The similarities between them struck me as the elevator doors closed.

The elevator reached the third floor of the hotel and as JJ and I stepped into the corridor, I noticed that Lauren had frozen to the spot. “You alright?” I asked her. Just because we weren’t on the best of terms didn’t mean that I didn’t still care about her.

“Yeah. I’m fine!” She wasn’t, but I couldn’t push it; not since we were just starting to talk again. She stepped out of the elevator and followed us to room 314.

I knocked on the door as JJ made our presence known. “Luke Henderson. FBI. Open up!” We heard some loud noises from inside; bangs, and clattering. It sounded like someone was in trouble or destroying evidence. I used the key that the receptionist had given me and enetered the room. It was clear, but I saw a figure running down the fire escape.

“He’s on the fire escape!” I yelled back to Lauren and JJ, before i began to chase the suspect.
