Chapter 31

Lauren's Pov

   I kept glancing at my watch; the minutes ticked by and my nerves were messing with my head. I knew I had to tell the team, but I was scared of what they'd say once they knew the truth about me. Well, JJ already knew and she was great with it, but there was no guarantee that the others would be too.

   "They'll understand, you know. They're on your side." She sounded so sure of that which was why I desperately wanted to believe her, but I just couldn't.

   "Will they?" I was terrified they'd reject me, just like almost every other person that found out had.

   "Of course they will. We're all here for you." I trusted that she would be, but what about Derek? Would he still want me after it all came out. "Derek will be too. He won't break up with you because of this. You do know that, don't you?" I wish I did, but my track record with guys wn't exactly the greatest.

   "JJ, I'm scared. I don't know if he shot Emily because he wanted to get away or because he somehow knows what and who she is to me.

   "He's the bad guy here, Lauren. It's his fault, not yours." Of course she was right, but that was JJ. She always knew just what to say to make me feel better; kind of like I did with Danielle; kind of like a sister.

Derek's Pov

   I would do anything for Lauren if she asked me to; and I would do anything for Emily too. So, if I could help the both of them at the same time then it's a win win.

   "You off to the hospital?" Reid had overheard the majority of my phone call with Lauren, so he knew that I had to get to the hospital.

   We were outside the precinct and I was hesitating about going to stay with Emily. I know I told myself that it was a win win situation, but there was something in Lauren's voice that made me think there was more that she wasn't telling me.

   "Yeah. Look, when Lauren gets here wlill you make sure she's okay?" Reid nodded and in that instant I knew that he had my back.

   "Just go. Be there for Emily." He turned and headed back inside the precinct. Maybe I should have driven off straight away, but my body wouldn't let me. So, instead I jut sat in the SUV for a few minutes before pulling out of the car park.

   A half hour later and I was in the elevator on my way up to Em's room. I'm not big on prayer, but since Emily got shot, I found myself wanting to pray a whole lot me, which is what I did.

   The elevator dinged, informing me that I had reached my desired floor. I turned corner after corner until I reached the corridor where Em was. I saw JJ stood outside the room and figured Lauren was inside talking to Emily. As I made my way towards her, she turned and saw me.

   "Morgan, you're here." She looked happy to see me. It was right then that Lauren came out into the corridor, ran up to me and threw her arms around me. I couldn't help thinking where that came from, and in front of JJ to. Lauren must have told her about us, although if Reid was to be believed then she already knew.

   "Thank you for this." I smiled at her. "I love you." My heart started beating real fast and I knew that she could feel it.

   "I love you too." I felt like I was a lovesick teenager again. I felt that way every time I saw her.
