Chapter 11

Lauren's pov

   Derek and I sat and listened attentively while Brooke told us what happened to her; in detail. She told us how he forced his way into her house, how he put his hand over her mouth and told her that he'd make her feel special. All if it struck a chord with me and it sounded really familiar. I knew why, but there was no way I could say anything until I was sure.

   "Lauren, you feeling alright?" Derek asked. He must have noticed how faint I looked; that and the fact that my breathing was shallow and I had a tight grip on my chair.

   "I just feel a little faint is all." I couldn't exactly tell them the real reason now, could I?

   "You still get those dizzy spells?" Brooke asked; it was directed at me, but she didn't give me chance to answer as she turned her attention to Derek. "You know, she used to get them, like, all the time and this one time..."

"Brooke!" I cut her off before she could say another word. "I'm fine Derek. Honest." This was how I got everytime I thought about that part of my life.

Reid's pov

   Why do all police precincts look the same? I thought. Hotch came into the room just as I was pinning the picture of the latest victim to the board. "The others not back yet?" I asked as he sat down in the chair closest to the board.

   "I just spoke to JJ. They'll be back soon. And Derek called when they left the hospital; they shouldn't be much longer either." As if on cue, JJ, Rossi and Emily walked into the room.

   "So the crime scene was a total mess. It looks like the assault didn't start there though, but it is where it ended." JJ explained to Hotch and I.

   "Morgan snd Lauren still not back?" Emily seemed keen to know what was taking them so long.

   "No, but they," I went to reply, but changed the end of the sentence when I saw the two of them enter the building. "have just arrived." Emily turned to see them make their way towards us.

Emily's pov

   Being away from Lauren and Derek for a while had been nice. I had almost forgotten about the fact that my past was coming back to haunt me. Well, that was after JJ had stopped asking me awkward questions and we focused on the crime scene.

   "You get anything from the victim?" Hotch asked Derek and Lauren.

   "Brooke Ashton, the victim; she gave us a detailed account of what her attacker did to her, but there's something you should know." I was intrigued.

   "I know Brooke!" Lauren said. "I went to school with her. She's one of my closest friends; more like a sister if I'm honest." She continued. Well, I'm pretty sure none of us expected that.

   "Will your relationship with Brooke have any impact on the case?" Hotch asked and Lauren shook her head to indicate that it would not.
