Chapter 27

JJ's Pov

   How the hell was I supposed to react to that? I thought we'd both had enough surprises today to last us a lifetime but obviously Lauren wanted to drop one more bombshell. "What do you mean, you think you know him?" Well, I guess I knew what she meant, but I needed it explaining; I was still confused as to why she would think that.

   "What do you think I mean? I mean that I'm pretty sure I know who he is and why he is doing all of this!" I got that, but what I did not yet understand was how she knew all of this, and if she knew it before, why didn't she tell anyone?

   "But how? What makes you think that the Unsub is who you think it is?" I thought it a valid question, but Lauren looked at me as if I was being stupid.

   "Christopher Rimmer is the guy who shot Emily, right?" I nodded "Well, that's not his real name. His real name is Christopher Royale and he's my ex-boyfriend." Was she serious? But then again, why would she make this up? She had no reason to. "We started dating our senior year of High School and broke up a year and a half later; towards the end of our freshman year of college at NYU." She continued to tell me how she knew this Christopher Royale character, and I must admit that it was a story of strength, courage and bravery. Lauren was one hell of a woman, and she deserved us to do everything in our power to catch this son of a bitch.

Derek's Pov

   The drive to Christopher Rimmer's apartment building went a lot quicker than I expected it to; Reid kept asking me questions about Emily, Lauren, and well pretty much anything else he could think of to keep his mind occupied. "You figured out how Lauren and Emily know each other yet?" Evereyone kept asking me that one; they seemed to think that because I was close to Lauren, she would have confided in me, but she hadn't.

   They didn't believe me, no matter how many times I had told them this. "No. I don't! I wish people would stop asking me!" It angered me; I mean, why they couldn't just ask Lauren themselves, I don't know. "Hey, Reid, could you do something for me?" He gave me a sarcastic glance that told me he would. "Give me an honest answer. Why do you all assume that I know what's going on with Lauren and Em?" As soon as I had asked the question, I could tell that he already regretted saying he would answer honestly.

   "Do you really want to know?" We were nearing the apartment building, and so I pulled over and parked the car. I then turned to Reid.

   "Yeah, I do" The brainiac that was Dr. Spence Reid, might be able to read an entire book in like ten minutes, but he really was useless at hiding his emotions. Like now, he was trying to cover up the fact that he didn't want to tell me, but I wouldn't give him no choice.

Reid's Pov

   There was no way that Derek would let this go; if I didn't answer this question now, I was certain that he would hound me until I did. "Fine, I'll tell you." Derek braced himself for what I was about to tell him. I had no idea how he would take it, but he had a right to know. "Everyone knows." I hoped that would be enough, but the quizzical look on his face told me that it wouldn't be. "Derek, we know about you and Lauren; that you're still seeing each other." He was still confused. Should I tell him the rest? It could explain things, or it could make things worse. "Ermmm..." Oh, what the heck.

   "What? Reid, tell me!" I took a deep breath and turned to face him.

   "We knew how you felt about Emily too, and we can't help but wonder if you still feel that way?" He didn't answer, he just got out of the SUV and slammed the door shut. "Morgan, you said you wanted to know!" He was angry and to be truthful, I didn't know why.

   "Well, it's none of your business, so just drop it, okay?" I didn't want to push it, so I did what he said and I left it alone. He was talking Emily's shooting so much harder than any of us, maybe with the exception of Lauren; I figured that he would talk when he was ready.
