In the morning Dean wakes up to his alarm clock. He gets out of bed after a couple minutes of procrastination and gets ready. When he gets downstairs he looks at his phone. He has about seven texts from Cas from throughout the night about various random topics. After a quick small breakfast Dean walks out the door and starts making his way towards the school. After about three minutes of silent walking someone -probably Cas- suddenly puts their hands on Dean's shoulder, making him jump. He spins around and sure enough Cas stands there laughing. "That wasn't funny" Dean says with a bit of a pout. "Yeah it was" Cas says, putting his arm around Dean's shoulders as they start walking. "Okay maybe it was but that's not the point" Dean says with a hint of a grin on his face. Cas smiles and rests his head against Dean's. "You fell asleep on me last night" Cas says. "Well yeah, it was one in the morning" Dean says. "It was kinda cute actually" Cas says "you just kinda started dozing and then you were asleep." Dean scrunches his nose at Cas. Cas laughs which makes Dean laugh. Cas takes his arm off of Dean's shoulder. "So when was the last time you slept?" Dean asks. "Um, I don't even know" Cas says. "You need some sleep, aren't you tired" Dean says. "Oh I'm exhausted, I just can't fall asleep" Cas says "I slept much better when I slept with you." They walk up to the school and take up their usual positions against the wall. People still stare but they don't quite look as annoyed with them which Dean thinks is at least a bit of an improvement. "Well if you need me to come over tonight and spend the night I will" Dean says. Cas laughs a short laugh and rests his head on Dean's shoulder for a moment. Hannah runs by and waves at Cas. He smiles and waves back before she runs off. "Hey Dean" Dean hears Charlie yell. Dean turns his head and sees her walking up to them with Kevin and Benny in tow. "Hi" Dean says. "You guys sure made a show yesterday in church" Benny says. "Yeah well we were just trying to get them to understand us better" Dean says a little quietly. "What he's too nice to say is we we were trying to get them to rethink themselves and stop being assholes" Cas says, leaning around Dean to look at them. "Yeah pretty much" Dean says, a hunting color appearing on his ears. "Well your message was heard loud and clear" Benny says with a smile. "But did it work though" Dean says. "Well from what I've heard it did work" Kevin says. Dean smiles and looks back at Cas who has a grin on his face. The bell rang and Charlie, Kevin, and Benny wave goodbye before walking into the crowd. Cas's smile gets a little wider and they walk towards the building. When Dean walks into first period later he sees Cas sitting in their usual spot and sits down next to him. "So I was wondering, why do you always act kinda different around other people?" Dean asks as he copies down the bell work on the board. "I dunno" Cas says, not a hint of annoyance in his voice. "I guess when I'm around you I can be more myself but with other people I dunno I just can't show them that side of me." Dean doesn't quite know how he should feel, happy that Cas is so comfortable around him or sad that he doesn't feel like he can show this adorable side of himself to other people. Cas reaches his hand out along the wall and slips it into Dean's hand. The teacher starts to call roll. Dean tenses a little, worried about what she will call Cas. She goes down and the list and when she gets to Cas she calls out "Cas." Cas let's go of Dean's hand to raise his hand. He doesn't show any emotion but Dean felt him relax when she called out his name. The rest of the class goes on pretty uneventful. When the bell rings they both get up and walk out the door quickly with the rest of the class before the teacher could remember the homework. They get to second period and sit down. The teacher is on the phone and just when Dean gets out his homework she tells him and Cas to go to the office.
