Dean squinted as he looked up at her. He put his book in his backpack before standing up and walking to the door. Cas stood behind him. "Oh look at how red you two are" Mrs Hutchins says. "Y'all must be freezing, let's get you two inside quick." Dean smiles and walks past her, closely followed by Cas. As Dean walks through the snow his heart races. Mrs Hutchins catches up with Dean and leads the way up to the door. She ushers them inside the house and closes the door behind them. "Here you go" she says handing them each a think blanket from a basket. Dean wrapped the blanket around himself but Cas didn't do anything with it. "Now what were you two doing out in that storm?" Mrs Hutchins asks. "Well I was walking home from school and didn't expect it to get that bad but suddenly I could even see so I just took shelter" Dean says. "Yeah that's pretty much my story too" Cas says. "Well you're plenty welcome to stay until the storm settles down and we can get you boys home" she says as Mr Hutchins comes around the corner. "Why hello Dean" he says. "Now who is this" he says looking at Cas. Dean notices the hint of judgement in his eyes and hopes Cas doesn't see. "I'm Cas" he says. "I found them holed up in our old root cellar" Mrs Hutchins says "Apparently they got caught out in the storm and I was just telling them how we'd be happy to let them stay here until we can get them home. Speaking of that, you should probably contact your folks and let them know you're okay." "Okay" Dean says as he takes his phone out. Cas takes his phone out. "Fine but they won't really care" he mutters as he texts them. "Well how about you boys go into the living room and I'll make you two some hot chocolate" Mrs Hutchins says before bustling over to the kitchen. Dean, Cas, and Mr Hutchins go into the living room and sit down, Cas and Dean on the couch and Mr Hutchins in a big leather armchair. Dean's phone buzzes and he looks down at it. 'Okay, I told Bobby' his brother Sam had texted back to him. He puts his phone back in his pocket and looks up. "So Dean, how have you and your brother been?" Mr Hutchins asks. "Good, Sammy got the part in the school play so he's excited about that" Dean says. "Good to hear" Mr Hutchins says. "And you Cas, how are you?" he asks, probably to be polite. Cas shrugs his shoulders. "Parents still hate me and sister is kinda in between liking me and hating me but I'm fine though" he says with a slight roll of his eyes. It's quiet until Mrs Hutchins comes in with two steaming mugs of hot chocolate. "So the weather report said it's not supposed to stop snowing until tomorrow so I guess you boys are staying overnight" she says as she sets the mugs down on the coffee table in front of them. "We only have the one guest room though and it gets terribly cold down here at night and you could get your toes frozen off so I guess you will have to share the room." "That's fine" Dean says looking up at her. He glances at Cas and sees him staring down at his hands but he has a hint of a smile playing at his lips. Dean looks back over at the old couple and smiles. Dean and Cas both picked up their hot chocolate and took a sip. Mrs Hutchins chuckles. "If I didn't know any better I would say you two were brothers." "We barely know each other" Cas says. "We just got stuck in the cellar together" Dean says right after Cas gets done talking. Mrs Hutchins chuckles again and Dean's ears go red. It gets quiet and Mr Hutchins turns on the tv. The news is on and the couple watches as the weather lady talks about how this blizzard is expected to go on at this rate for hours then start to die down. Dean takes his book out of his backpack and tries to read it. He notices that Cas is sitting a little closer to him than he should have to considering the length of the couch. He looks at him and sees him looking at the tv but with a far off look in his eyes. Eventually they have dinner and later the boys go up to their room after bidding the couple goodnight.
