Dean leaves Cas to go to his locker. 'That must have been why he didn't sleep much' Dean thinks. He hangs his jacket up and gets his materials for the day before closing his locker and walking off to his homeroom. For most of homeroom he reads. He says hi to some people and he answers some question about what happened -news, especially gossip, travels fast in such a small town- but mostly he just reads at his desk. The bell sounds and he grabs his stuff and is out the door. He navigates through the crowd to get to his first class. He gets in the door and sees that Cas actually sits in the seat behind him. This is the only class where they have assigned seats so Dean is happy that Cas sits so close even if it is surprising that he's never noticed him before. Dean sits down and Cas looks up from what he's doing nonchalantly but his eyes are bright. Dean turns around in his seat. "Whatcha doin?" Dean asks. "Just drawing" Cas says, moving the pencil over the paper. Dean nods and watches Cas draw until the teacher gets their attention. When the bell rings they both get up and walk together to their next class. It is a little cramped in the hallways so most of the time they are right up next to each other but neither one of them make any effort to move. They get to their class and go to sit down. Cas moves to the back and Dean follows. They sit down in the desks against the wall and start talking. They had just had a big test so they probably wouldn't be doing much that class. "So you have insomnia" Dean says, looking at Cas. "Yeah" Cas says, "my mom used to say it was because angels don't sleep but that's a load of crap." "I dunno you seem pretty angelic" Dean says. Cas laughs. "Yeah right" he says. "Well don't you get tired" Dean asks. "Yeah all the time" Cas says "it's just I can't fall asleep." "Doesn't that mess with your head or something" Dean asks. "Yeah it just doesn't really get too bad until like three days or so" cas says shrugging his shoulders. "Have you ever fallen asleep in class?" Dean asks. Cas laughs a little. "Yeah actually" he says "once I had been up for four days and I just passed out on my desk. My teacher at the time knew about the insomnia though and just let me sleep." "That's funny" Dean says. "Yeah it kinda was" Cas laughs. They are momentarily distracted from their conversation when the teacher hands out a worksheet but it's simple so they work on it while they talk. "So that's why you didn't fall asleep until really late" Dean says. "Yep" Cas says. "Who's Bobby?" Cas asks after a minute of silence. "Um he took us in after my parents died in a fire like 12 years ago" Dean says. "Oh, your parents were in that" Cas says looking over at Dean. "Yeah" Dean says looking at Cas. "I'm fine though, it was a long time ago" Dean says grinning. Cas grins and looks down at his paper. The periods go by quickly and before they know it they are at lunch. When they enter the cafeteria they head towards the lunch line and get in line. Half of the grades in the school are in the cafeteria and the line is long. They end up behind some people Dean knows. "Hi" Benny says. "Hi" Dean says. Kevin, Charlie, and Ash stand in front of Benny in line. "Hi guys" Dean says. They all say hi. "So what's your name?" Charlie asks, looking at Cas. "Cas" he says. "How did little Dean-O here make friends with you?" Benny asks. "I'm taller than you" Dean says looking at Benny. Cas shrugs, "wasn't that hard." "Weren't you the guy who fell asleep at his desk?" Ash asks. "Yeah" Cas says. They get up to the front of the line and get their food. Dean watches to see if there is room at the table he usually sits at. There isn't and he sits at an empty table. Cas comes over and sits down. "What took you so long?" Dean asks. "The lunch lady thought that I might have had fake money" Cas says. "Why" Dean asks. "Beats me" Cad says, shrugging his shoulders. "Hey so I before I forget," Cas says "I want to show you something after school." "Okay" Dean says wondering what it could be.
