CHAPTER 10

Juniper's POV

"So my friend thinks its a Fate, but I wouldn't know." I said, glancing between Sam and Dean.

"A Fate?" Dean repeated.

"Yeah, a Fate. I can't say that she is the best source, but this friend of mine has helped me out with cases before. She's not too bad."

I was hesitant to use Rikki's name in any conversation with the Winchesters. Thinking about what Rikki had said about the Winchesters being some of the best hunters around made me wonder if they had maybe heard about her. It was a slim chance, but I didn't want to find out what might happen to me or Rikki if Sam and Dean found out I had been hanging around with a demon.

Jade seemed extremely baffled. "What are you guys talking about?" She asked incredulously.

I sighed, opening one of the many books that Sam and I had been looking through and sliding it over to her. "The incarnation of fate, or destiny, whatever you want to call it. There are women known as the three Moirai, according to Greek mythology, who watch over the life and death of every born mortal. There is some sort of similar idea like this in many different forms of religion, and the number normally seems to be set on three."

"Like in old Norse mythology," Sam explained. "A similar group of women known as the Norns, incarnated as ideas of past, present, and future, kept track of every mortal's life and cut the thread of life when it was time for someone to die."

I nodded. "Exactly. Now, we think we're looking at Greek mythology, so that's what Sam and I have looked into with the most detail. The three women are known as Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. Now Atropos is the one who decides how people die. She cuts the thread of life, so to speak."

Jade stared down at the pages I had turned to in the book, trying to process all of the information Sam and I had just dumped on her.

"So we're thinking that Atropos is the girl we want to gank?" Dean asked.

"Well I doubt we can gank her." I said. "I mean, we could, but that would result it her sisters wanting to gank us."

"Are you guys messing with me or something?" Jade suddenly asked.

I turned to look at her. "Do you think I would joke about this? If we really are looking at a Fate, then it means that she is killing people who don't need to die yet, because the deaths happening are too close together, too closely related for this to be a coincidence."

Jade shook her head. "You've got to be joking."

I looked at Jade, my expression showing my seriousness. "I'm not joking."

My sister glanced between Sam and Dean, seeming to want their input. "She knows what's up." Dean supplied, taking a sip of the beer that had replaced his cup of coffee from this morning.

"I bet Cas could help us out with this," Sam commented.

"Who?" I asked in confusion.

"Castiel. He's an angel. I'm sure he could give us some input, and maybe get us something to use as leverage."

I nodded, not all too sure about speaking with an angel. Of course, as a hunter, I had encountered angels before, but not as friends. Angels were real dicks.

"Don't worry, Cas isn't a dick." Dean said, as if he had been reading my mind. "We've been friends with him for a while."

"Angels? Fates? I'm surrounded by crazy people." Jade said abruptly, standing up and promptly leaving the room.
