Santana's POV
"Dani!" I yelled grabbing her shoulders and shaking her awake. "Dani! Wake up!!"
She pushed my hands away in her sleep, a deafening scream leaving her mouth. I watched how her hands gripped the mattress, her nail digging through the thin fabric coating it till it ripped.
"Dani!!" I yelled again, and that's when she shot up sitting, her eyes wide open as they started to tear.
It turned quiet in a second once she stopped screaming, and that's when we heard Dylan crying from his room. I sighed and kissed her cheek before jumping out of bed to go calm him down. He must have been woken up from Dani's screams.
It was hard to make him calm down. He didn't stop crying and stirring in my arms. I sat down on the rocking chair and rocked us both till he tired himself from crying, and eventually he fell back asleep. I put him back in his crib and rushed back to our bedroom, because I also have Dani now to take care of.
"San..." She cried as soon as I reappeared in the doorway. The tear stains on her cheeks shined in the small light of the room, and she was shaking uncontrollably. I rushed to her side and jumped back to bed, pulling her to lean into me.
"Shh.." I whispered, rocking us slowly like I just did with my son. "It was just a dream baby..."
"I'm scared." She whispered, her head buried in my chest. I pulled her closer to me and slowly caressed her blonde hairs.
"What was your dream about?" I asked. I could feel her tensing up. For a second she just kept crying, her head stuck close to my body as she clanged to my shirt with her tight fist. I was about to push her a little, since she is supposed to share things like that, when she suddenly started talking.
"Dylan," she mumbled into my chest. "My brother. He was calling for me. I-I couldn't help him. He was screaming my name and I couldn't find him. T-t-then I saw him, we were underwater. I reached for him but he kept falling down, he screamed my name again and then he disappeared." By the time she finished talking she was sobbing hard. "It was so real San. I could hear his voice! I felt like I was left with no air."
"Shh..." I hummed. Pressing her head closer to my chest and kissing the top of it. "Baby, it was just a dream."
"But he's gone."
I didn't know what to say then. That's true, he is gone.. I guess she starts to rethink about this all because tomorrow we will be traveling to Texas, that's why the nightmare. She didn't have one in so long, this is alarming.
"Dani," I then said. She looked up at me with teary eyes, waiting for me to continue. "This wasn't your fault." As soon as I said that she rolled her eyes, a sigh leaving her mouth while she cried. She bit her lower lip, her gaze stuck somewhere in the distance. It was like she was annoyed hearing me saying it. "It's not your fault." I said again.
"San, he stepped on that plane because of me."
"Dani do not blame yourself about this." I said strictly. I grabbed her hand in mine and gave it a small squeeze. "This is no one's fault. It was an accident, accidents happen. But this is far away from being your fault." She didn't even look at me. I grabbed her wrist, feeling her many scars against my skin, and used my other hand to make her look at me. "This is not your fault." I stated, looking her deep in her eyes.
"I just want him back." She broke down crying, burying her head back into my chest. I sighed and nodded, I want him back too. As a friend and sometimes just for Dani.
"I know baby," I whispered. "I want him back too..."
---
Rachel would be joining us to Texas. She wanted to come too and visit the cemetery and also support Dani as her best friend. We both decided to 'keep it professional', which means for Dani's and our sake, keep our bitchy comments in New York and try to act like two adults.
