I leave Eren and Brooke as they escort Jaden home.
I'm so tired.
I walk quietly through the alleyways, praying nothing happens.
I look around at the dingy brick walls and dumpsters.
There's been to much excitement, and my heart is still pounding.
Maybe I could start a life with Jaden...
I shudder at the thought. Jaden may be a ghoul, but I'm not that desperate. I'd rather die an old maid.
The wind blows softly from behind me, causing my hair to whip forward. The moon is so beautiful. I wish I could stop and enjoy it.
In the distance, I can just make out the sounds of sirens and the screaming investigators.
I feel a twinge of guilt, but it's better than what most ghouls do.
********
I collapse inside the house.
Brooke and Eren are already there, reclining on the u shaped sofa.
Jinx is up on a cat walk, meowing impatiently.
"Couldn't you guys have fed her?" I ask
They both simply shrug.
As I open a can of cat food, I ask what happened with Jaden, even though I don't really care.
"We just dropped him off at his apartment building."
"Ah. So how do you think the mission went?" I ask
Brooke beamed.
"We rescued a young ghoul! Ghoul lives matter! It's time the CCG realized that." She exclaims
After we all discussed the previous events, Eren lead me away towards our neighboring rooms.
"What exactly did you do that they were screaming so much and so loud?" His eyes were serious, more severe than I'd ever seen them.
I shrunk back against the wall.
"You didn't eat anything off of them did you?"
I look up in shock. He should know I wasn't so cruel!
"Eren. We've been with each other since forever. You know me better than I do. Now tell me- would I do something like that?" I snap
"No, you wouldn't... But you kinda looked insane for a moment." He says apologetically
"I did pop their arms out of their sockets. Just one arm each, though." I explain
"Ah. Well, that was a smart move. I love you." He hugged me good night and walked into his room.
I did the same.
My phone laid on my bed, having a seizure. I ran over and looked. Lexi...
I have to admit, I'm very lucky to have Lexi. It wouldn't be smart on my part to have a large pool of friends, but Lexi is all I could ever need.
"You wanna do something tomorrow?" Lexi texts me
"Sure! Coffee and the park??" I respond
"You so get me" Lexi replies instantly
We spend the next hour talking about all the cute guys who've caught Lexis eye since school let out.
"That barista was as delicious as the coffee he made" she says after a while
My mind flashes back to his kakugan eyes.
After a what feels like forever, but is actually just two and a half minutes, I respond with "He actually was..."
My phone is gonna hate me for forever...
"Y O U LIKE H I M?! DUDE OMG YES PLEASE!!" I can just imagine the look on her face
"This is the part where I say goodnight and go to bed. See you tomorrow!!" I turn off the phone
As I lay there, staring out my window, I thought about the Barista. He may or may not be a ghoul. What if he was? Could there finally be another person outside my family who understood what my life was like? Who I could go to?
I barely knew this guy, and yet I was imagining him taking me on long walks.
I need to know his name.
