"Kaneki?" I ask as my eyes flutter open. His mouth is slightly open and he's still asleep. I brush his bangs out of his eyes so that I can further examine his face. His skin is strikingly pale and his eyebrows were even whiter.
He groans slightly and I quickly take my hand away.
When he settles back to sleep, I run my fingers along his eyelashes. They tickle my finger tips. How they don't get tangled when he blinks is a miracle.
I run my hands along his cheeks and down his jawline.
I just begin to trace his lips when they move. "Everything okay, Doctor Tanaka?" He says.
"Gah!" I yelp as I fling away from him.
Kaneki smiles as he slowly opens his eyes.
"What do you want to do today?" He asks.
I roll onto my back so I can stare at the ceiling. "I'm not sure... Do we not have anything to do?" I respond.
"Tatara gave us a week to heal." He says.
"Heal?" I laugh as I hold up my fingers.
"Mhmm." Kaneki says.
"Honestly, I'd rather go on a mission." I groan.
"On the bright side, it means seven days of reading!" Kaneki says brightly.
"R-reading?" I stutter. Eleven days, and he wants to read?
"Yes." Kaneki replies as he settles back onto the pillows.
"What kind of books?" I ask. I guess it's a good way to relax.
"Uh.." Kaneki says as he twiddles his fingers.
As I smile at his awkwardness, that stupid pain comes back.
"I gotta go!" I exclaim suddenly as I jump out of bed.
"Go?" Kaneki asks with a startled look. "Go where?"
"Supposed to meet Lexi!" I try to smile as I throw on some clothes. I slip on some shoes and I run out the door before he can say anything else.
The pain grows more and more as I run down the halls. My vision goes black around the edges. I turn towards a window and I shove it open. I quickly dive out and I straighten myself as I fall twenty-two stories.
I land quietly and I begin to sprint.
Abandoned building.
I need an abandoned building.
In the next ward, there are dozens of broken down towers. I kick one open and I collapse inside. My shirt loudly rips just as I shut the door.
"Why?" I whisper as tears overflow. "What did I do?"
I begin to walk up the stairs, waving my sword about menacingly.
"Maybe I should die.." I think to myself as I reach the third floor.
"Maybe that's what the world is trying to tell me. Maybe my number is up.." I think as I pass the tenth floor.
"Suicide." I decide as I reach the top floor.
I activate my rinkaku and I point it towards my chest.
"Goodbye, Kaneki." I whisper as I shut my eyes tightly. I thrust my kagune into my abdomen.
I gasp as the sound of blood against concrete echoes everywhere.
My eyes snap open and I stumble about before falling backwards.
