"You ready to head home?" Kaneki asks as I block the door to the basement.

"Yeah.." I sigh as I brush my bangs out of my eyes.

His warm fingers dance along my cheek as he tilts my head up towards him.

"I love you," he smiles as he leans down to kiss the tip of my nose.

"I love you more," I giggle as I peck his chin.

"I love you most." Kaneki retorts as he bends down slightly to close the distance between our lips.

A warm waves washes through me, all my worries melting away.

I tangle my fingers into his hair, causing him to smile into the kiss. He pulls me closer to him as he deepens it.

Just as he was about to further it, he pulls away.

"Maybe we should continue this at home?" He frowns as he nods his head towards the blocked door.

"Oh! Y-yeah.." I stutter, my cheeks burning brightly.

Kaneki chuckles as he kisses my forehead. "Kawaii."

"Let's just get going.." I mumble awkwardly as I take his hand and tug him towards the front door, locking it behind me.

"It'll be faster if we go along the rooftops." Kaneki points out as he interlocks our fingers.

"Alrighty." I reply, already preparing to jump up.

We calmly walk alongside each other in companionable silence, the moon shining brightly in the night sky.

"Hey, Keiko?" Kaneki asks softly after a while.

"Hmm?" I hum back.

"Is it always going to be like this?" He questions.

"Like what?" I reply.

"You know, like us going on missions and staying with Aorgiri.." He says.

"I've never really thought about that.." I answer. "Why?"

"Well.." He says as he continues to look forward. "Aorgiri might not always be as powerful as it is. That's the thing about ghoul groups; they can collapse overnight. And when that happens, I have no intentions of staying and getting captured by ghouls or humans."

"Oh.." I mumble. "I guess it's good to be prepared for that."

"Yeah.. But I was thinking, when and if that happens, I want to go and try to live a normal life again.." He muses. "With you.."

"Me?" I ask shyly.

He looks at me from the corner of his eye. "Of course, you. I love you. I'm not just going to abandon you. We're gonna leave the city and move to the countryside, where no one will know about us. Or we could even move to another country."

"Another country?" I ask quickly.

"Yeah.. Like, I don't know, America? America is supposed to be a safe place, right? I'm sure we could figure it out.." He says happily.

I lean against his shoulder and look at our interlocked fingers. "I'd like that.."

He absentmindedly runs his hand along my head. "I'd like that, too.."

We separate to walk across a metal beam connecting to buildings.

I gaze up at the stars, already picturing it.

An apartment, no one noticing people going missing, pets, maybe even us getting married and eventually having- *CLANG*

"ARGH!" Kaneki shouts.
