Chapter 39

"Annica baby, take my phone and text daddy back and tell him I will call him in a minute. I'm driving" I said handing her my phone. "What's the passcode?" She said, "oh that's right I changed it" I said. I held out my hand, putting it in for her, taking my eyes on and off the road repeatedly. The last time I looked down, all I remembered was Annica screaming. "MOMMY!"

Nate's POV

"Stas has been typing for a while. All I said was what we all wanted. What could she possibly be typing?" I said bouncing Ethan on my leg. "Who knows dude." Sam asked. Then my phone rang. (N-Nate , H- Hospital)

N-hello?
H- yes, is this uhm, oh right here, Nathan Maloley?
N- yes speaking. May I ask who it is calling?
H- this is Doctor Leo from Lakeside Hospital in downtown Omaha(is that even real cuz I totally made this up whoops). I'm calling on behalf of what looks to be your wife, Anastasia Maloley, and daughter, Annica Maloley.
N- W-what about them? Please tell me they are okay!
H- well, as of now, it's hard to say. If you'd like, you can come down to the hospital and visit and by then maybe we will have more answers, we're not even positive on what happened yet. I'm so sorry Mr. Maloley.
N- thank you, I'll be there shortly.

"Oh my god. Fuck fuck fuck" I said putting Ethan in the cushion next to me. "Aiden, Jace, Cass! Put your shoes on please!" I yelled. "What? I thought mom went to get us food?" Aiden said confused. "Yeah, me too. We need to take Jace and Cass home right now. I'm sorry buddy" I said as they slipped on their shoes and I got Ethan in his car seat. "Sam, you two are coming with" I said. He nodded. "Dad what's going on?" Aiden asked. "I wish I knew buddy" I sighed as we all got in the car.
"Why are we at the hospital?!" Aiden, Sam and Jack asked at the same time. "Ana and Annica are here" I breathed out, switching the side Ethan was on. "Anastasia and Annica Maloley please" I sighed to the lady at the desk. "Yes, they are conveniently in the same room. Room 248, but we ask that family only goes." She said. "It just so happens that were all family actually. I'm her husband and the little girls father, these are her sons and the girls brothers, and these are my brothers as well as the girls uncles" I breathed out, knowing I was straight up lying. "Fair enough. Go on, the nurses might be in so just knock." We all nodded and went to the elevator, going up to the next floor. "Is mom gonna be okay? Annica too?" Aiden asked. "I wish I could say a definite yes lil man. We have to wait and see" I told him patting his back. "Can you hold you brother for a second?" I asked. He nodded, taking him from my arms while I looked for the correct hospital room. Sam took Ethan in his arms as he began to cry. "I got him don't worry. Check on the girls. I'll be back" he said. I nodded thanking him. I knocked on the door. "Come in," someone had said. I looked at Aiden then at Jack and opened the door, holding Aidens hand. I saw Ana lying in the one bed asleep and bruised up beyond repair. My hand instantly went up to my mouth. I walked in further and saw Annica, who was also bruised and cut up. I shut my eyes and cried silently. "I'm guessing you are the husband and father?" The nurse asked. "Yes, and this is her son and brother in law" I said breathing in. "We'll take a seat sir, we have lots to talk about" she told me. I nodded and sat in the chair next to Ana with Aiden on my lap. Someone knocked on the door, "That's her brother and her other son, please let them in before we begin" I said. She nodded and opened up the door. Sam gasped and walked in and sat next to Annica. "Before I start, I'm Doctor Neil and I will be with Ana and Annica to help them heal. Now I assume you don't know what happened, is this correct?" He asked. I nodded. "Annica and Anastasia were in a bad accident tonight. A truck collided with them head on and both hit their heads pretty badly. As you can see, they both have deep cuts and big bruises on there forehead from the impact. Annica suffers from a broken wrist, and three fractured ribs. Anastasia will suffer from trauma to the left side of her brain, a couple broken ribs as well as the broken wrist. Annica has been responding to questions but hasn't opened her eyes. Ana however opened her eyes, but very faintly and hasn't woken since." He informed us. I continued crying silently and hugged Aiden. Jack and Sam were also crying and Ethan, well he was asleep now. "I'll give you guys some time with them and then I will come back and run some tests" he said, seeing I was wanting time. I stood up, sitting Aiden in my place and grabbed Anas hand. "Babygirl please if you hear any of this or any noise in this room, squeeze my hand or do something so I know" I sobbed. Nothing. My head dropped and I was staring at the ground. "Pull through baby. For me. For the kids. We need you. I need you. The kids need their mama, baby. I don't know how I will function without you. I can't pull off bein a single daddy. It won't work for me" I sighed lookin up. I felt her hand move in mine. "Do that again baby, please!" I cried, wiping my cheeks. "I need to see Annica now but baby please don't leave me" I said, kissing her forehead.

3pm

"Daddy is mommy and Annica okay?" Aiden asked for the millionth time today. "Aiden, I don't know yet. They are still doing tests. They'll be okay, you know that" I said. "Can we go get my DS?" He asked sniffling and wiping his face. "I can run and get it if you'd like?" Sam said. "That'd be nice. I can't leave" I said. Jack left an hour ago to go see Madison. He said he'd be back when I told them they woke up which was fine. I don't want to take away from everyone else's lives. "Gimme the kid" I laughed silently, taking Ethan to my chest. "It's gonna be okay" Sam assured me. I nodded. "Thanks for sticking around too" I smiled. "Aye, anything for fam" he patted my back. "I'll be back in a few" he said.
Sam returned soon after he left. "Anything new?" He asked. I shook my head. "Maloley?" I heard. I stood up with Ethan and Aiden. "We have some updates," the female nurse said. "Some good, some bad" Doctor Neil said. "Bad first" I said. "Ana may or may not suffer from memory loss. It's still unknown yet" he said. I sighed. "Okay good news" I said. "Good news is both of them are awake and responding right now" the female said. I breathed out. "Thank god" I said holding onto Ethan's back to support him. "Can we see them please?" I asked. They nodded and we followed them to their room. The door opened and the kids and Sam walked in last. "Daddy," Annica choked. "Slow baby, take it slow" I whispered. "Why am I here daddy?" She asked. "It's a lot to explain right now sweetie" I said. "Who are all these people?" I heard Ana mumble. "Baby...." I whispered. "It's me, Nathan. And your son Ethan and Aiden" I mumbled. "I know you Nathan and them too but him, who's he" she pointed at Sam. "That's Sam. My best friend." I said. "Mommy" Aiden cried. She teared up, "don't cry, mama is okay" she said. He nodded and buried his face in my side while Ethan played with my ear. "Can I hold him?" Ana begged. "Of course he is yours" I smirked. She smiled softly and held Ethan close to her. "I missed this" she mumbled. "He missed you" I said. "I don't think he would've liked it without you around" I chuckled. The nurse then returned, "I'm sorry guys but visiting hours are coming to an end. You can come back in the morning, 9am though" he said. "Okay. Goodnight angel, and goodnight princess" I said kissing Annicas forehead then Anas. "Daddy your coming back right?" Annica said sadly. "Yes baby. I'll be back in the morning with your brothers." I smiled standing in the doorway. "Goodnight" I said.
