"You better watch your back, Cheif!" , Heather exclaimed proudly as she swung her twin bladed axe at him. "Oh.ho.ho. If i didn't know any better, i'd think you were trying to kill me!". They both laughed as they leapt around in the training halls. It was morning and Heather had forced him up for a practice round as he had promised her the other night. Hiccup had found the sister he had never had in her. He pulled out a cylindrical hilt and flipped it over in his hand. "Heather, If you value your axe, you might not wanna use it in this battle. I'm gonna be trying out something new. ". Heather knew better than to disregard his advice. He usually came up with ingenious and sometimes weird inventions. She didn't want to risk her trusty axe with him. She picked up a spare sword from the armoury and charged at him. At the last second, she used all her forced and flipped over his head. Hiccup, even though he was really agile compared to the other vikings his age, was no match in agility to Heather, who had a similar fighting style to his. By the time his mind comprehended what was happening, and he turned around, she tripped him and had her blade at his throat. Seeing the smug expression on her face, he chuckled. "You still forgot that i have a love for surprising my opponents, haven't you? plus... i learn from my mistakes. ". As a shocked look flitted across her face, he clicked at the cylinder in his hand, a second later, a bright orange glowing sharp edged rod extended out of the hilt that he was holding. It was at least four feet in length. Hiccup swung the blade around and Heather watched with shocked eyes as it sliced through the sword she was holding. Seeing her face, Hiccup grinned and got up. "New blade I've been working on. ". He explained. He loved to explain his inventions to his people. "Had the blade made of a metal alloy. Had Gobber make it for me . The hilt... i made it myself. It has small pellets that contain an mixture of Monstrous nightmare saliva and nightfury plasma spark. As the lever i press switched the inside mechanics, the blade extends out, coating itself in the mixture and along with a bit of heat... mabye 200 degrees from a small heater located inside the hilt, and you've got a sword that can basically cut through opponent weapons. ".He clicked it again and the blade retracted back into it's hilt. Heather grasped it into her hands and turned it over, examining it with an amazed look. "Where do you come up with all this...". He chuckled . "I got the idea when i was cornered by Alvin a few weeks back near the outposts. I needed toothless to save me but i need to reduce my dependency on him. ". "You have to make me one of these!". Hiccup chuckled. "I'll think about it.". They both started laughing. Just then, the giant oaken doors opened, bathing them both in the bright and blinding sun rays. "Fishlegs is in your study, Hiccup. He says he has something to discuss with you, son.". It was Valka. She smiled sweetly at the two of them. She and Heather had really started to form a bond as mother and adopted daughter now. "In a minute. just need to change this thing...". He called out as he pulled the armor padding over his head, and ruffled his hair, wiping the sweat from it. "All right... duty calls.... see you later, Heather. ". She smiled and nodded before handing him the hilt of his new blade back.
It had been five months since since they all returned since their trip to Arendelle. He had managed to perfect the mask of making everyone think he was his normal self, when on fact, each time it snowed, it reminded him of her the weather these past few days didn't help either. It was December and snoggletalk was fast approaching. As Hiccup made his way to his study, many of his people greeted their chief, whilst carrying bag loads of decorations and gifts. He smiled and walked on. His tactic mostly worked very well, but no matter how hard he tried to forget her his heart constantly found a way to remind him about Elsa. Mostly he just missed her presence and often he found himself thinking about telling her something only to remember she wasn't there.
When it came to matters concerning the village he still talked to his mom, Gobber or the council just as he had done before, but he now missed talking to another ruler who had taken over at a young age and understood the troubles of maneuvering amongst those who were so much older. What he didn't miss the slightest from Elsa's court though was that he didn't constantly have to evaluate every sentence or find a hidden meaning. The Vikings spoke their minds and they weren't trying to trick him or lure him into a trap like the nobility in Arendelle constantly tried to do.
When it came to matters concerning his own inventions and thoughts on the world however, it was a different matter. Once again, Hiccup was alone in his interest for unanswered questions that didn't involve sheep, dragons or weapons. Nor did the Vikings fully understand his ideas or his sarcastic humor. Only Astrid and Heather did , but they were not upto the same level as Hiccup and Elsa were. Meaning, they understood the joke, but they couldn't think of a comeback fast enough.
