I moaned, "How much longer is this going to take? There is a carton of break-up ice cream in freezer calling my name."
"What happened with-um-" Cisco started.
"Kate. Ever since her dad disappeared, she has been really on edge. She thought it would be best if she could focus on finding him," I answered him. Caitlin gave me a sympathetic look, while Cisco continued to prod the subject.
"So," continued Cisco. "Why aren't you more upset? You seemed more ready to bite Caitlin's head off an hour ago."
"She was taking a blood sample! I hate needles. And Kate and I only dated for a couple of months. It wasn't like it was serious," I told them. The computer started making noise. Cisco and Caitlin rushed over to the computer to see what was going on. I moved more slowly. Cisco, Caitlin, and Wells had been doing tests and making me work on my powers all day. It was physically and mentally draining. But if I wanted to help Barry, then I had to be ready for anything. Cisco started calling Barry.
"Hello," Barry said, picking up, the conversation coming on over the speakers.
"Code 237 on Waid Boulevard," Cisco spoke rapidly. I raised my eyebrow and stifled a giggle.
Barry questioned the code as well, "Public indecency?" Cisco furrowed his brows.
"Wait, I think I meant a 239."
I crossed my arms, "Dog leash violation. Cisco, you need to work on memorizing codes." Caitlin leaned into the microphone.
"Bad man with a gun in a getaway car! Go!" Barry hung up and was off to save the day. I smiled at Cisco.
"Oh shut up," Cisco said, returning the smile. "We all don't have photographic memory." I shrugged.
"I'll give you a better way to memorize it later. It'll be fun. As much fun as spending an hour on a treadmill at its fastest setting," I shot a glare over at Caitlin. She shook her head as she made sure Barry's vitals were stable after the guy was caught.
Without even looking in my direction, she added, "We just want to see how far you can go. We need you at peak physical condition. For all we know, your physical well being could be tied to your powers as well."
"Caitlin's right, Rose," Wells wheeled in, with his lap full of food from Big Belly Burger. "But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the good stuff." He passed out the food and I couldn't help but thank heaven above for him going and getting the food.
I took out the box and opened it to find the Deluxe Cheeseburger. My stomach grumbled loudly as I lifted it out of the box and took a large bite. The warm fast food was a delight after a long day of tests. I swallowed the bite.
"Thank you," I gratefully told Wells. He returned my smile as he took a bite from his own burger. It was nice getting to know the team without Barry around. These guys were a team before he woke up. Everyone was still getting used to him and I being around all the time. While I still felt like a stranger, it was nice to finally start connecting with people who I hoped would become my friends.
..............................
"Morning boys," I said, cheerfully as Joe and Barry walked into the lab. They both said good morning back. "Joe, I got what you asked for." I held up the evidence box. More specifically, the evidence box on the murder of Nora Allen. Barry's face became deadpan. I set the box down on the desk.
"I've been through this box a thousand times," Barry said, looking at it. I put a hand reassuringly on his shoulder.
"I know, Barry," Joe said. "But we are going to go through every piece of evidence until we find something. And we will. We just need to take our time."
