"The number you have dialed-"
"Are you kidding me, Lily." She sighed, ending the phone call. Honestly, Elis don't really want to call Colton because he'd give this stupid recommendations and won't be much of a help at all.
I guess I don't really have any choice.
Elis dialed Colton's number, pulling a chair to sit on. Her eyes were blank, watching the visible vapours that formed from the hot chocolate.
"The fuck, Elis what are you up to?" Colton answered groggily. Elis obviously woke him up. Well, that's a surprise. He didn't usually slept this ear-
Elis took a glance towards the clock on the wall. Almost four in the morning. Never mind.
"Yeah, hello to you too." She replied, not really feeling guilty.
"What do you want? You are such a prick waking me up this early." he demanded half asleep. Elis heard a shuffle of sheets.
"Zach came into my room just now."
"The fuck?"
"Zach came into my room at three a.m. in the fucking morning," she repeated feeling tired all of a sudden.
"Zachary Johanson? Wha-"
"Tell me what to do because I don't know what to do and I think it is wise to ask either of you, but Lily won't answer so I am forced to call you no I am definitely not sorry." She spoke in one breath.
There was a moment of silence. "What is he doing at your place?"
"Should I answer that?" She asked back with sarcasm dripping from her tone.
"Just... Just question him or something, or just go to sleep, Elis. And we'll talk about this tomorrow."
Well, so much of a help. "I can't think."
"You are good in spontaneous conversation, hit 'em up with your tacky conversations of something. Just, get some sleep. He must have his own reason. You'll be fine, Elis." Colton reassured her and he chuckled slightly. "See you tomorrow, kay?"
Elis was quiet for a while and then she sighed. "Yeah. Good night."
"Nite," Elis can hear his smile. She turned off the phone and put it in her pocket as she stood up from the chair. She pushed it back under the table and brought the mug with her upstairs.
Her heart started to race, she was anxious and her head gone blank when she pushed open the door to her room.
Elis almost lost her grip on the mug. "Zach!" she cried in surprise. She put the mug on her nightstand and quickly run towards Zach. He laid motionless in front of her bed.
What is wrong with this guy?!
Elis struggled to pull him onto her bed. She was wheezing for breath and collapsed beside him. Slowly she sat up and sighed again.
She sighed a lot these days and that certainly ain't a good news.
Reluctantly she turned her head towards him. God damn him, look at those long lashes. Didn't he know that it was illegal to be so good looking? And that wet hair which fell flat on his head. How can he slept so contently with that wet hair. Elis frowned a bit. His chest rose and fell with an even rhythm with no care towards the world around him. Why did he look so calm, so full of serenity? It was as if he had found comfort and was already safe and sound with his life.
The look on his face when he appeared out of nowhere at her window flashed her mind. The way he looked at Elis, it was as if he had this overwhelming relief washed over him.The kind of relief when you finally freed from clawing madness of the world. The kind when you finally found a haven or a shelter that will forever keep you safe from the dangers of the world.
The kind of relief when you finally reunited with your lover...
"Dammit." She cursed under her breath and shut her eyes. Her head started to hurt again. She sighed again and sat up begrudgingly. Slowly she slipped from her bed and stared at him like he was a monument or something. Elis pulled the blanket and covered him. Then she pulled the curtain close before slipping out from her bedroom (not forgetting the hot chocolate). It seemed she will have to sleep in the guestroom. If she could sleep, that is.
Her phone vibrated and gradually her ringtone started to play. It wasn't the usual ringtone, she immediately recognised the caller. She answered the phone call and put the mug on a small table besides the bed. Then she switched on the lights.
"What."
"I can't sleep."
Elis frowned to herself and walk towards the bed. It was placed on the corner of the room and there was a window on the wall. The curtains were tied on the hooker on either side of the window. She watched the water droplets running down on the window. The lightning that illuminates the sky will make the droplets glittered like stars in the sky.
"Why?" she whispered after a moment of silence. Her free hand touched the cold window glass, staring the fog that formed from her warm hand against the cold glass.
"I don't know." He replied with a hushed tone.
So many weird things happened in a short time. Thought Elis, as she sighed once more. "Is there something bugging you dumb ass?" she insulted Colton just to lure the real him that she knew these past four years back into 'view'.
The other side of the line paused for a moment before an exhale voiced out through the speaker. "No, not really. It's just- I just realised, destiny and some shit like that is really possible after all..." he lets out a laugh in disbelief.
Elis face scrunched up in confusion. "What are you saying? I don't understand..."
"It's nothing really. It's just a late night thought that I kinda need someone to hear. Save some sleep, Elis. We're going to have a long night tomorrow. Make sure you have enough popcorn stocked up. We're gonna burn until the microwave explode."He burst out an evil laugh and immediately ended the phone call.
This guy really have a broken fuse or something. Elis puts away her phone on the small table and drank the lukewarm chocolate until it was finished. Then she looked out to the window and laid back on the bed. Contemplating whether the moon and the sun were planning jokes on her life. She can only wish that her mom won't freak out when she knew about Zach suddenly came unwelcome to their house in the late night.
It was like there was something that lurked in the dark waiting to jump into her life, to bring out the best or the worst and can be both at the same time. And out of all, she prayed she would never lose her friends what ever happens. No, she just wished she would never lose Lily and Colton. There were something undecipherable about their existence in Elis' life, as if they are vital for something significant. What is it, then?
"Elis."
The soft call of her name swiftly brought her to a slumber she never hoped to be awaken from.
