"This is crazy." she muttered, shaking her head wildly, eye wide.
He grinned, devil's plan on their mind. Well, his mind.
"We are crazy." he stated right before crushing their lips together and laughed.
"Oh shit, dude, I am not lying when I said I dunno how to swim." she bit her underlip, glancing at him. She felt nervous, afraid, anxious, she was on the edge. Quite literally, actually. She peered down, the water looked so inviting, but the height? No.
Absolutely not.
She thought that it was a devil's plan because she hated heights, she didn't know how to fucking swim, she was afraid of drowning. Another one, though it was officially summer after the school bell rung so loudly, morons being awfully ecstatic and euphoric, papers flew all around the class, loud chatter in the hallway, boisterous laugh and all that happiness relating to summer break, the air was still kinda cold.
And Colton, an adventurous idiot like he was, brought her to this cliff in the middle of nowhere -they basically climbed over the DO NOT ENTER sign, which was really cliche and exciting at the same time. Elis never knew why she agreed to this fear wrecking shit, but she did it anyways. Don't ask why. Maybe because she just want to wreck her own fear of not knowing how to swim.
This is stupid, she thought to herself. But Colton gave her a peck on her cheek, smiling. "It'll be okay. We'll jump together, I promise not to let you go." He whispered in her ear. It made her shivered as she lets out a sigh. It was quite reassuring, that, coming out from him.
"Oh god, I'm trusting you too much." she complained, clutching tightly when they held hands. He glanced at her, smirking. "I love you too." he said.
"Oh my god."
"We jump at three..."
They trotted backwards, slowly, dread slowly fell, she was actually mortified at the moment Colton counted one.
"One..." they started running.
"Two...," they were going to do it. They were going to jump off some cliff she never knew existed and they were going to die. They were dying, no one knows where the fuck they were, they'll die drowning in some lake, they were going to die and no one will ever find them.
"Three...!" he yelled loudly. Elis swore at the moment they defy gravity, jumping in the air, her heart stopped.
It happened so fast, she didn't even realise her feet wasn't touching the ground anymore. They screamed, Elis out of fear and Colton out of thrill. He was a fucking madness. Their voice pierced through the woods, the birds flew away from their respective shelter under the shades of the trees in the woods. She could hear the sound of the air when the resist them, the loud wooshing in her ear deafened the thumps of her heart. Elis shut her eyes simultaneously when her skin touched the water.
The splash was deafened when water engulf them, Elis snapped her eyes open, looking for him when they were underwater. Believe it, she was trying so hard not to panic, but the thought that she really sucked in swimming? Not so great to relax while being underwater.
But her thoughts seemed to be wiped away when she watched him. She was absolutely mesmerized. He smiled so widely, he looked so beautiful and charming underwater. His hair floats widely in the liquid and the light that refracted in the water going through his strands, the golden colours were illuminescent. It was breathtaking.
He kept his promise of not letting go of her hand. His free hand pulled her head close and then he shut his eyes, kissing her underwater all the while pulling them towards the surface. They were floating in the water for god knows how long.
They gasped for air, feeling the air slapped on their face. Colton laughed more, he was so happy.
It wasn't long when Elis realised she was still in the water, her legs flailing helplessly to keep her afloat even though she gripped his hand like a lifeline. She panicked, not feeling the ground under her.
"Hey, relax..." he coaxed her gently, pulling her shoulder towards him.
"How-" he cuts her off with a kiss.
It was a simple on her lips, but she gulped a ton of air to relax, her head gone blank, feeling high. They exchanged looks, Colton's eyes watching her fondness and a tint of worry.
She didn't think of anything when she looked at him, her body acted on itself for the sake of surviving. She felt like crying somehow. "That was crazy..." her voice cracked because she worried so much about nothing at all. When it was all fine, she was still alive, she just couldn't believe it.
He giggled softly, feeling a bit relieved. He pulled her closer and kissing her forehead. "I'm not going to ruin this moment by stating the fact that human body has a subconscious mind that-"
"Stop, you don't need to say it." she shook her head while putting her hand to close his mouth. She could feel he smiled underneath her palm.
"Okay. Let's get on the ground. Your skin is paler than the clouds and I am worried." he pointed out, tilting his head.
"I was so fucking scared you don't even know." Elis mumbled, feeling helpless, obviously not taking note of what Colton said.
They trudged through the water slowly until the reached the edge of the water. Elis quickly jumped out of it, not liking the feeling when the wind blew slowly, chill soared through her skin. She helped Colton out of the water, they both trembled slightly. Colton lets out a big exhale, he glanced at Elis. He didn't say anything onto her statement, but it didn't mean he didn't hear it. He did. And he actually knew about it.
"Oh my god we don't even have spare clothes!" she exclaimed while sitting down on the ground.
He sat besides her. "We can get back when our clothes are dry."
Elis frowned. "I don't even know why I agreed to this."
"Well, you didn't." he stated.
Elis groaned. "I'm fuckin' dramatic. My god." she whined, hating herself.
Colton chuckled. He laid on his back, admiring the view. The trees towering high towards the sky. Occasionally there'd some birds flew across the blue panoramic view of the sky, soaring through the clouds. It was a calming view.
The greens, the blues, the colours, overall made him feel relaxed and calmer. To share it with Elis was something he had considered since long ago. He loved the sound when the wind blew, the surface of water would ripple, the leaves would shuffle through.
"Glad you realise." he teased, smirking when he looked at her at the corner of his eyes.
Elis rolled her eyes upward and scoffed. "Thanks for the compliment. Very much appreciated." She leaned back slowly, putting her head on her hands.
They were quiet, breathing in the view.
"Hey, Elis?" he called out softly, head turning towards Elis.
He was a bit shocked that she passed out, snoring lightly. He smiled, at first it was from the thought that Elis looked endearing. Like a child having a cat nap after getting exhausted from playing around all day and getting their stomach full after that. More so, she fell asleep with her wet clothes, he had to wonder how that could be comfortable when she had complained about it just before. But the thought quickly replaced by the thought he had to take her away.
"I'm sorry." he whispered to himself, his hand reaching out, fingers brushing gently on her cheek.
