The first snow fall.
He remembered it was nearly decades since the last snow befall onto the city, coating every surfaces that it met with white. The darkness gave it shadows that turn into something close to blue and black.
The wind would blow. Sometimes it wouldn't, the air felt stagnant, giving chills to the bone.
He wondered how he had died if he ever lived at all before.
If there was a life before he was sent to Lily. Before he was assigned as a guardian. He couldn't remember what he was before all of that. All he knew, right then, he had to aid Lily as the two souls withered every passing life they've lived, only have a tiny sparks reignited as they reborn. As their stars never seem to align.
The stars were scattered too far away from each other, or none without the other or neither at all. They lived life as various creatures, never passing but always parallel with each other.
He pondered on the thought, why, after all those lives, why until to this life where their chances slithered to cease, after the lives they've been through- just when they reborn and their stars alined perfectly together...
He didn't know how it happened. How his feeling caught in the midst of his and Lily's shared excitement for having their souls twined together, for them to finally live an eternity together. For him and Lily to be able to burn and settle their duty among the stars once again. Lily would probably be the essence of life, having taking a life form or be among the creatures of the sky or the sea, or to rest for all she wanted. He couldn't quite figure, but he thought that what ever she has to be after this life would probably be rewarding for her.
But what about Colton?
What about him?
What will he have to receive?
He doubt he will get anything, if anything at all, he was sure he was close to nothing. To cease from existence, memories. Wiped out of everything.
He had thought as a guardian, it was close to impossible for them to catch feelings. But why had he? How did it happen?
It wasn't only Elis, but it was both of them.
It was Zach too.
Colton was in love with Elis and Zach.
As much as he did, more so Elis than Zach, as they've lived for years together, he knew Elis chose to stay. Chose to stay in love with him even when the love had faded.
It faded, the love, was because it wasn't Colton that she should be with. Her soul has long yearned for her destined one.
That, was what they all aware of, but Elis chose not to follow Fate, because it was something certain, they would be together no matter what happened.
However, Elis' soul was contempt, she had lived lives for countless of times, being reborn but never seem to find Zach, only when they die or when they met eyes for once in a lifetime, that her soul chose not to believe as much anymore. And to think and learn about others. In a simpler phase, Elis' soul was simply disappointed with the Fate that she wasn't really trusting it as much as it believe it could happen. As it meant to happen.
It was a different matter for Zach. Zach's soul was elated, they could see how it burn so bright the first time their stars aligned. The glowing fire never once dimmed, always ever lasting. Because in most lifetimes, he had been the one to live most of it and to die after Elis death. He was the one who had seen Elis countless of times but never seem to find his way back to her no matter how many times he tried. He was the one who was always certain, to find the 'click', the knot that held their strings together.
Colton should be treasuring every second of living he has with Elis. The time spent... but the hole was massive, the darkness weigh burdened him a lot he couldn't lift it. The emotions spiraled out of control in his mind and in his heart. He was pulled under, deep and deeper into a depth where no one could no longer see what was more or if it has any final ground at all.
Every moment thinking none of it would matter, that he would cease and Elis could no longer have a memory of him, any trace of his existence gave him immeasurable pain.
Times he could see the pulsing glow of light within Lily, as a guardian. And his was green with yellow, the hues infused with each other.
But now, there was no light, no glow, nothing at all that once resides within his chest cavity. Only a void, a hole and every time he would stare in the mirror, trying to remember when it vanished.
Colton could feel it, on his skin, in his bones, the flow of blood rushed from all over his body, he was gradually fading.
He was almost at an end, a ghost taking a living from a shell that most creatures take it as a human form.
Colton stared at the mug that was left empty only with a bag of tea already dried in the mug, tied its end on the handle.
Death wasn't something that he was afraid of.
Death was a phase every living should pass through.
But to cease?
That is an end for every existence.
Falling in love can be the most rightful thing, and the most disastrous thing.
It can be a mistake.
It is a mistake for an entity like Colton.
Love allow everything to have a chance to live.
Love is of many contradictions.
It makes you full and empty.
It is pain.
It is happiness.
It is warmth.
It is coldness. It is everything and nothing at all.
It is a weakness, it is also a strength.
Love itself is life.
And what happens when death falls in love?
It lives again.
"Colton,"
He didn't look up. But he waited.
"We-"
"You are gonna tell me now? The reason why..." Colton let out an exhale before he leaned back on the sofa just to crane his neck to stare up to the ceiling. The lighting of the room was bleak enough to hide what ever expression he may wore. The way he was feeling was something similar.
He ran his fingers through the strands of his hair. The tip of his finger were cold and even he was numb enough to all the feelings he had felt.
He shut his eyes.
"I am going to disappear." He stated with a monotonous tone when he blinked open his eyes just to see the grey color of the ceiling.
"And you guys will-" he turned his head to look where Elis and Zach stood. He could sense their presence before but-
They weren't there.
He exhaled once more. Feeling tightness in his chest and a sinking feeling slowly form into a weight he couldn't bear.
They?
Colton's gazed locked onto the door, seeing only his boots, leather shoes, sneakers and running shoes on the rack, and his sandals wasted on the floor. He watched emptily, somehow wondering what he was looking at. What his mind was trying to see.
Why he suddenly feel the need to look at the door. Although he knew all too well how long he has been alone. Living in the penthouse just to spite his loneliness...
More like feeding it.
He blinked once, confusion came by like a passing wind.
What was he waiting for?
